3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
this ale had a clear gold-red (orange) pour and made a one finger white head that receded to a island of bubbles (about the size of a quarter) and small ring, the bubbles had faint color to them, the glass had a center medium flow of bubbles with a few single bubbles here and there, and at the edges, it left some spots of lacing on the sides of the glass that eventually rolled off, there was no sediment in the bottle,
this ale had aromas of honey and dew like sweetness, floral scents and sweetness, faint malt, grass and plant sap in the background, the bourbon was very light on the nose and hardly noticeable, the aroma does resemble glue/solvent/chemical a bit (I noticed this right upon opening), not off putting but it was there and I do not like Agave syrup for this same reason, when I smell Agave, glue comes to mind, the bourbon sweetness grew as the ale warmed,
this drink had flavors of agave and bourbon liquor sweetness, faint caramel, fruit that is neither tropical or citrus, vanilla in the background, a little toasted malt, I noticed wood as this beer warmed, the finish had a little pepper spice and bourbon liquor bitterness with a little sweetness following,
the mouth feel was medium that coated the palate, there was a little creamy feel on the tongue, and it had average carbonation,
a light nose that grew a bit as the beer warmed, a nice sipper,
it was a little interesting having the agave touch to it.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
As "Grand Cru," vague idea of age (2011-2012ish?). Listed at 12.9% ABV and aged in oak bourbon barrels. Gusher, like a Champagne bottle, which is a little disturbing. Once it settles, the pour is a hazy golden orange with a fair amount of fine floating sediment and a fizzy eggshell head that settles to a scant ring and does not lace, though some alcohol film not quite turning to legs is present on a swirl. Nose involves rich sweet malt, vegetal agave notes, some tropical pineapple, cane sugar, woodiness, vanilla, stone fruit (peach) and coconut. Very sweet, lightly tart, somewhat bitter. Full bodied, slippery, viscous, soft yet prickly, with a warm twangy herbal drying finish. Full disclosure: this beer is not for me on the grounds of the agave alone. I unfortunately ruined tequila for myself at a young age by drinking quantities of swill and suffering the obvious negative side-effects (puking 90% of the time I drank it and blacking out in people’s bathrooms and a kitchen sink once), so that agave flavor takes me back to a bad place. That said, the combination of horrifying veggie-agave flavor with the overbearing sweetness and questionable age of this beer pushed this to borderline disgusting and undrinkable for me. My rating will no doubt be an outlier, but I will never try this again and would never recommend it to anyone, even at fire-sale prices.

Bottle; thanks to the superb generosity of my friend madmitch76, shared with staff at Alehouse, Chelmsford, 31st March 2015.
Shit loads of cedar on aroma, reminiscent of Thomas O’Hardy. Sugar and caramel. Very rich. Taste is sugar, marzepan, cedar, caramel and alcohol. Fantastic. Exactly what I want from a good old bottle. Completely blown away by how clean and how interesting this beer is. Great work.

Smell is odd and hard to describe. Kind of malty? Taste is caramel, malt, and general ale. Hides the ABV pretty well.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Fantastiskt gott.

Cork and cage into snifter. Smells a little of honey, hints of Bourbon, and some funk. Tastes a little bit of peach, just a perfect amount of Bourbon, sweetness, with a taste of carrot left on the tongue. Incredible and unique beer.

Not my favorite north coast beer. Slightly sour aroma and a really nice smooth finish.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
"This one was unique right from the get go. Probably the lightest and fizziest (good head) barrled beer I’ve had. Little hint of any alcohol on the nose til it reached close to room temp. Aroma of fruit coconut and vanilla. Weird combo, but it works. In the flavor, the alcohol is a bit more prevalent, but subdued for such a strong beer. Agave, belgian spicy yeastiness, apple-like fruit notes, and bourbon (obvious without being overbearing - i think it’s a 2/3 blend). Smooth finish. Wanted more at the end."
