3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft (at Black Bear in Morgantown, WV)... Clear orange ale with a small, wispy, white head. Great retention. I really had trouble pulling any aroma from the glass, but as the beer warmed I was able to pick out some oddly sweet notes of unidentified melons and tropical fruits. Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. The flavor is malty and fruity up front (maybe melon?), then fairly bitter on the backside. Finishes raspy and dry with lingering bitterness. I couldnít really nail this one down as there were sweet-fruity notes Iíve not encountered in any other beer. Too strange to love. Too good to hate. My burrito rocked!

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap at Black Bear burrito joint in Morgantown, WV. Cloudy orange pour, weak head. Nose is dusty, moldy, some light vinegar and sweet orange candies. Taste is dusty, nutty, chalky, sharper C hop bitterness. Not much different from a stale SNPA.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Citrus hop aroma that has a hint of dustiness to it perhaps from fuggles in it, giving it an East coast flavor. Complex yet odd in many ways. There is some malt sweetness to offset the hops and also gives this some body. Finish is clean and fairly bitter making for a very nice example of the style with the 8% well hidden.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy copper with a light head covering and no lace. The taste surprised me: clean caramel malt neatly balanced 50-50 with rich floral hops. The balance remains steady right through the lingering finish. Even at 8%abv, no alcohol is present. For those accustomed to American hops, this will be a bit of a jolt, but, still, it is well worth seeking out.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Approximately 3 ounce sample pour (in a plastic oversized shot glass) at the brewpub in Parkersburg, West Virginia. The pour is a light haze golden copper with a small white head. The aroma is caramel malt and floral resin and grapefruit hop. The taste is hop forward, resin floral grapefruit sweet, perhaps a bit of pine, a touch of bitterness, followed by the malt which kicks in the finish adding some sweetness. The palate is medium to light bodied, low carbonation level, and the sweet turns a bit chemically in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a thick white head. Aroma of sweet citrus and caramel malt. Flavor of initial sweet citrus fruit with spicy hop overtones and a bitter, spicy finish. Lots of tangy, orange citrusy notes. Good ipa.
