3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 sm89walt (1587) - Norwich, Norfolk, - AUG 6, 2012Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2012. Deep brown with a light hazy & a thin off-white head when poured. A spicy dark fruit, red fruit, coriander, slightly choccy, liquorice & cherry profile. Light to medium body, softish mouthfeel with a spicy, gently tangy finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 shoulderbroken (1145) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 28, 2013
Tap at Craft Beer Bar Yokohama. Dark brown, golden head. Aroma is roasty bit chocolate, coriander herbal, quite sweet. Taste is nice, herby, perfumey, nice roast, like a weird black ipa. Floral, and pretty nice.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
My Bottom Line:
Coriander, caramel and licorice meld in this sweet and very spicy beast of a brew.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the brown-edged black.
-Mouthfeel is not too heavy considering the nature of specialty malt dominance.
-This is just about perfect for many types of curry.
-The sweetness is redolent of many types of candy.
-This is probably the first beer that makes me think of Traquair Jacobite. The resemblance of the aroma is uncanny.
On tap at Himalaya Table, Tokyo.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (233) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 16, 2013
On tap at the North Island Brewpub in Sapporo (and I had a bottle later on at home). It poured a great dark black with a good inch of tan foam. The aroma had the coriander front and center and the flavor started with the spice and ended with a roast coffee flavor. Excellent! Probably one of the best stouts I’ve had in Japan and also a fairly innovative beer, kudos!

Light boided with soft, fine carbonation. Light sweet finish with further tang and some misplaced spices. Not great, really.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig. Pours deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is herbal coriander, some orange, lemon and vegetable. The taste is light vegetable soy sauce, some chocolate and light coriander sweetness. Medium body. OK, but the soy sauce notes bring this down.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Scopey (3252) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 9, 2012
Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012. It pours cloudy dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is coriander, meaty, spice and soy sauce. The taste is caramel, roasted malt, charcoal, chocolate cardboard, herbal, toast and soy sauce. Medium body and average carbonation. Interesting, but I’m just not a great fan of herbal flavours in my beer...
