On tap at Beer Bar North Island. Served in a half pint shaker. Copper amber color with a modest light caramel-colored head. Grapefruit, orange, pine needles and bit of melon all on the nose. Really sticky, resiny profile that intensifies on the palate. Nice balance between malt and hops although the hops really shine through in this IPA. Nice bitter finish that stays with you. One of the best IPAs in Japan in my opinion.

Bottle via a trade with TimE. Pours clear and deep rusty orange, with a big foam white head. Nose is lots of pine, conifer tree, lots of Christmas tree, itís also a bit plasticky/new sneakers. Thereís also caramel, citrous bitterness, grapefruit. Taste is red berry, cranberry., lots of pin, Christmas tree, plasticky, citrous bitter. Not liking the plastic phenols but otherwise itís decent.

Caramel malt, citrus aromas. Bitter grapefruit taste, with a nice crisp. Overall enjoyable little Hokkaido IPA.

Bottle, 06/29/2013. Pours burnt amber, hazy, medium white creamy head, lacing all the way down. Aroma is light sweet caramel malts, cereal grains, mild citrus, melon, grassy hops. Taste is tea-like malt sweetness, lingering grassy herbal bitterness. Medium light body, a bit sticky. Alright, but perhaps this wasnít the freshest bottle, something was a bit lacking.

North Islandís IPA. 7% 630 yen. Tulip @ Yellow Ape Craft. A nice malty sweet fruity beer, definitely hop forward. Probably the closest Iíve seen to a Dogfish Head IPA made in Japan. North Island are one of the better breweries in Japan no doubt.

Tap at Craftheads. Golden amber colour, small white head. Aroma is bit stinky, sorachi and tropical fruity too. Taste is malty, quite fruity, nice weirdness. Pretty damn nice. Should have eaten something before I started drinking.

Draught at World Craft Beer Tasting in Osaka. Good stinky hop aroma, but not an assault on the nose; Cloudy, hazy yellowish-gray (not appealing) color. Initial is very hoppy, with little stings on the sides of the tongue; harsh bitterness takes over in mid palate, along with a bit of fruitiness; final goes to mild bitterness. Good, thin-medium body.
