Aroma: Charred, bitter grain, light cinnamonm black licorice, Palate: Fairly light-bodied style with firm carbonation Flavor: licorice, coffee, bitter chocolate. Comment: Medium-intense flavors. Not a rich, sweet style but quite dry. Served a bit on the cold side, but the aroma eventually came forth.

Tap at Keyaki. Black colour, golden small head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, bit of smoke. As expected, but still nice. Taste similar, roasty, dark chocolate, some vanilla creaminess, little bite. Slight fruity sweetness too. Pretty good. Nothing unusual but everything you might want In a stout is here.

Draught at the brewery. Pitch black with a nice creamy head. Sweet and sour fresh malt aroma. Creamy, good roasting, sweet-and-sour flavor, on the sweet side, with chocolate. A good sour edge, though. Dark chocolate, milk, not overly sweet. Great balance. Medium body, very crisp.

Bottle from trade with TimE. Black, creamy brown head. High bitterness. Slightly over-roasted grains. I’m just not a big fan of dry stouts under 8%. Too dry.

TimE (3092) - Tokyo, JAPAN - FEB 16, 2008
Pitch black color, big cacao, espresso notes in the nose. Thin mouth (a theme going on here with this brewery). Earthy, espresso, mocha, cacao all play together on the palate. Great depth. A bit sour and balance isn’t there. Very nice lingering bitterness.

Draft @ Brewpub: Dark black color with a nice tan head. Nose of light plum, very fresh coffee and dark chocolate milk, perfumey roast and malt. The flavor is sweet, with just a bit of astringency and bitterness to balance, a shit-ton (metric term) of umami in the mouthfeel. Big flavor, but not heavy to drink, even though it’s chewy. Still robust, hmm, hard to explain. Delicious stout, maybe even quintessential...
