2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Cherry, light roasty malt, and a touch of chocolate aroma. Dark brown with a small tan head. Toast, tart cherry, dusty hops flavor. Light to medium body, light carbonation, dryish finish. Not horrible, but not all that great either.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On cask with lunch at North Peak. My server said that there was some Makers Mark involved with it too, but not sure in what capacity (don’t believe it’s barrel aged or anything). Pitch black pour with a thick mocha head. Deep sweet fruitiness with some toasty sweet malt and just a touch of the bourbon. Sweet mostly but a touch tart with some bitterness in there. Softer palate, oily, with a roasty finish. Nice beer, enjoyable.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours like a brown ale with a red tiny and a small white head. Nose is cereal and cherry soda. Not impressive. Taste is mostly sweet with a small bitter presence. Mouthfeel is light, crisp and a long finish.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz. shorty bottle (Date Nov.28, ’11) served in shaker- poured an easily transparent darkened brown with heavy shades of maroon when held to a light source, 4mm tan head formed, made several frog eyes upon the liquid surface, and did lace upon the vessel nicely. Aroma of cherries, malt, and biscuits. Hits the mouth with light medium body, malt is extremely restrained for the style but at least it has a degree of roast to it, bittering sensation in the middle, finish is mildly tart with the taste of cherries waving around. Kind of bleh.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Draft. Pours a light brown with a red tint. You don't get much from the aroma at all. The taste is mild as well, but you get some tartness from the cherries. Average beer.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottled. Poured clear, reddish-brown with a very tall, dense, sticky beige head. The aroma picked up a little dirty cherry dust over lightly-toasted brown malts.. a little cherry skin on the back of the nose.. not very interesting. The flavor found tart cherry skins and medicinal notes throughout.. I think there was a bit of roasty chocolate beneath, but there was too much sourness going on.. messy and sour on the long finish. Lighter-bodied and ugly on the palate.. not a lot of desirable textures or flavors.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue. Small off white head. Good lacing. Mild roasty cherry aroma. Flavor of chocolate and roast with a touch of tart cherry. Finish if of roasted coffee with a litttle bit of grittiness. Very dry. This is worthy of bottle, however something in this combination of dry roasty tartness doesn’t completely work for me. I love northern Michigan beers, but this one was just barely above average.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 11/28/2011. Pours slightly hazy reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some good spotty lacing down the glass as you drink. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, toasted malt, cherry juice, and herbal hops. Some decent and pleasant aromas; with decent strength and low complexity. Taste of chocolate, biscuit, toasted malt, cherry juice, caramel, pine, herbal hops, and light earthiness. Good amount of piney bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of toasted malt, biscuit, pine, cherry, and earth on the finish for a good bit. A good balance of the cherry juice is present with the malts, making it just enough to be noticeable. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel; with some prickly carbonation. The large earthy and piny hoppiness make this a bit challenging on the palate. Alcohol is well hidden with hardly any warming noticed; as expected for 5%. Overall this is an alright porter. Much more spicy hoppiness, and high astringency than I was hoping for. Not really what I would classify as being a porter.
