North Peak Darkangel is robust and dry with a finishing touch of tart cherry. The roast barley quickly gives way to the subtle chocolate malt and rich Crystal 30.Chinook and Centennial hops put forth a sharp clean bitterness that is followed by a medium malt body balanced with Challenger hops, ending with a smooth dry, tart finish and strong Galena nose. It is brewed in Traverse City, MI, on Old Mission Peninsula incorporating locally grown hops.

12 ounce bottle, bottled on November 15, 2011. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear brownish/red color with a very small light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both average. Aroma is roasted and sweet malt, and some cherries. The taste is similar to the aroma, but thereís also a bit of an herbal taste noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is light, it seems pretty thin for a porter. Iíll finish the 6 pack I have, but I wouldnít buy this again for $11.99 a sixer. Itís disappointing for me because Iíve liked the other North Peak brews Iíve had in the past. However, itís worth a try if you can buy a single bottle somewhere.

Bottle thanks to Thanimal. Pours a dark brown. Aroma is lightly cherry, light roast and some coppery metallic notes. And the metallic flavor carries through on the tongue, light bitterness...roasty and very little cherry notes.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. From Shep. A dark copper pour with little head and itbis clear with as much red as black. A very malty nose. The flavor offers a bit of hops with that malt. They are fruity and are subtle. This is kind of thin on the flavor.

On tap at JP in Ann Arbor. Poured a dark brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of cherries, lighter roast, and some chocolate. Although thinner, I found this quite drinkable and enjoyable.

2011-11-12. Dark red tinged brown body, small tan head. 3+ Flavour is tart fruity cherry cherry over muted porter base, mild roasty touches. Bit muddled but pleasant. 6+ Mild aroma, mild fruit over very mild porter character. Smooth average plus bodied palate. 3+ Mild overall, but nice. On tap at Jolly Pumpkin Cafe, Ann Arbor

On tap during the Biere De Goord release. Poured near black with a red hue and a light cream brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma had some tart cherries a bit of alcohol and a dark grain backbone. The cherries were a bit overly tart on the tongue, basically acidic. The cherries really battled the dark grains and it made for an odd combination.

On tap at the cafe in Ann Arbor. According to the rep, this is another creation of Ron Jefferies. A nice glossy black pour with a diminishing head of tan cream. The aroma is mild sour cherries along with the standard stout roastiness. A very approachable cherry stout, easy to drink in large quantities. The flavors blend well together, with the sour cherry notes accenting the beer, not dominating.
