On tap in Mentor (OH)
The change in draft handles at Melt meant my first choice was gone by the time I ordered. This was a reasonable fallback during Happy Hour. It could be a bit more fruity but overall I have tried worse porters. On the whole it is just slightly below average but typical of a North Peak release.
Aroma / Appearance - A rusty mahogany base is the color of dissolved nails. A crisp white head brightens the tone along with the scent of nutty cedar. The emphasis is more on almonds and peanuts than cherries. If one closes their eyes it is almost like being in an old bookshop surrounded by slowing dying novels.
Flavor / Palate - A pleasing malty base glows on the tongue and into the throat. The combination of chocolate and cherry tickles the senses. It is enough to provide a tease although I feel there could be more depth. A middle of the road beer makes a worthwhile beer to start a session. However it is not so great that I would then actively seek out another with so many other choices.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had on-tap at Three Blind Mice in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.
This beer gave me what I expected after reading reviews. I originally wanted a Normís Raggedy Ass to try, but they were out -- I went with this. Whatís most disappointing about this is that itís labelled as a cherry stout, but the cherry doesnít seem to be there much at all, if at all. Thereís a roasty/chocolatey flavor that youíd hope for from a porter, but itís not very rich, and the beer is thin. I suppose thereís some sort of fruity "ester", but itís subdued quite a lot to the point where it may not even be labeled as a cherry stout. A quite mediocre beer that I wouldnít bother having again. North Peak, youíre better than this.

On tap. Everything about this beer is sub par. The waitress told me I was the first to order it. I can see why. Abort.

Clear cola brown. Slightly bitter roast. Iím looking for the cherries, but theyíre hiding behind the roast. If you look, you can find them but it isnít easy.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Cherry, light roasty malt, and a touch of chocolate aroma. Dark brown with a small tan head. Toast, tart cherry, dusty hops flavor. Light to medium body, light carbonation, dryish finish. Not horrible, but not all that great either.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On cask with lunch at North Peak. My server said that there was some Makers Mark involved with it too, but not sure in what capacity (donít believe itís barrel aged or anything). Pitch black pour with a thick mocha head. Deep sweet fruitiness with some toasty sweet malt and just a touch of the bourbon. Sweet mostly but a touch tart with some bitterness in there. Softer palate, oily, with a roasty finish. Nice beer, enjoyable.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours like a brown ale with a red tiny and a small white head. Nose is cereal and cherry soda. Not impressive. Taste is mostly sweet with a small bitter presence. Mouthfeel is light, crisp and a long finish.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz. shorty bottle (Date Nov.28, í11) served in shaker- poured an easily transparent darkened brown with heavy shades of maroon when held to a light source, 4mm tan head formed, made several frog eyes upon the liquid surface, and did lace upon the vessel nicely. Aroma of cherries, malt, and biscuits. Hits the mouth with light medium body, malt is extremely restrained for the style but at least it has a degree of roast to it, bittering sensation in the middle, finish is mildly tart with the taste of cherries waving around. Kind of bleh.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Draft. Pours a light brown with a red tint. You don't get much from the aroma at all. The taste is mild as well, but you get some tartness from the cherries. Average beer.
