The devil made us do it. From the ABV and IBU figures to the fiendish use of Cascade, Perle and Willamette hops, Lucifer was whispering in our ears the entire time. Citrus and pine scents greet you and are followed by the sharp bitterness expected of an IPA. The beer’s true wickedness is revealed in the smooth Pale, Crystal 30 and wheat malts that surreptitiously broaden the beer’s appeal to more than just hopheads.

12 oz. shorty bottle served in shaker- poured a 20% hazy solid copper/brown color, white ring about the vessel for a head, spotty lacing upon it as it quickly went into my tummy. Aroma of light pine and citrus. Hits the mouth with a light-medium body, malt is awash in caramel (whew!), middle has a fine hop crescent, finish is lightly acidic and has quite an amount of resin. Decent, it’ll work.

Bottle from GBBF 2016 and drunk at home. Clear brown amber colour lasting dark cream head. Lovely grapefruit pink grapefruit hop aroma. Quite malty in the mouth. Some dry brown malt flavour. Some more hop on the finish. The aroma is good then perhaps it’s just a little too malty. Quite sweet as well. Good though and well made.

Bottle at Shnoodlepip after GBBF 2016, Tuesday. Clear golden beer with a small offwhite head. Hoppy citrus aroma, grapes, hay, floral. Malty caramel aroma, bready, citrus, hay, some floral notes. Feels old, not the standard i expect from bottles bought at GBBF.

Sampled from bottle @ ChrisO’s after GBBF Day 1. Clear orange color, medium sizded white head. Aroma is old stale hops, malts. Taste malts, hops, old hops, bitter, malt bitter. Appears old and not nearly in its best shape at all. Decent body and medium carbonation. Too bad this is old and oxidised.

Diabolical is a good IPA. It has a bit of an excess in bitter aftertaste, but it makes up for this with some citrusy sweet entrance to the mouth. The pine and citrus aroma with the golden pour, it’s a really good IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2016 Tap @ Hughie?s. Burnt orange pour with a finger of tan foam and nice lacing. Softly bitter, grassy and a touch floral. Does not taste at all diabolical.

Moderately bitter on the tongue. Dark orange pour with quick white foam. The grassy slightly dominates the citrusy hops. The malts are a little more complex, sweet at the end but a little bit of bread at the start.
