12 ounce bottle into tulip, bottled on 2/11/2014. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange zest, citrus rind, dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, light char, pine, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of citrus/pine hops and roasted malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange zest, citrus rind, cocoa, dark chocolate, roast, light char, pine, floral, grass, and floral/roast earthiness. Fair amount of pine/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange/lemon zest, citrus rind, cocoa, roast, light char, pine, floral, grass, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of citrus/pine hops and roasted malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice black IPA. All around good balance and complexity of hop and roasted malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft. Pours black with a thicker khaki head that leaves a hug, foamy wall of lace on the glass. Nose involves clean roasted malt, minty and piney hop notes as well as some grapefruit citrus. Fairly sweet, substantially bitter. Medium to light bodied, a touch thin, oily, with a tannic citrus fruity drying finish. Very tasty and well put together

Bottle from/shared SWolf! Monster foamy head on this mofo... Nose of roasted malts with a nice hop presence. Taste is mild for a black IPA... Little roasted malts...slight hop presence, but not bitter. Kind of spicy or peppery. Medium body, on the lighter side. Overall: Enjoyable

Bottle shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael! The beer is brown and somewhat hazy, with 1/4" of head and minimal lacing. The aroma brings alcohol, roast, licorice and hops. The flavor is decent enough, but I find the hop character lacking presence. Licorice and roast are the primary flavors, with notes of earth and pine in there as well. Im not even sure that I would have identified this beer as a black IPA, had I not known. A decent brew, but not something I would seek out again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-11-2011

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Mostly bread on the nose with some roasty malts. Pours a deep black, with a huge frothy head. Great lacing. Very bitter but very balanced. The 7.2% is well hidden. Medium body that has a stout like quailty in the finish. This is a very good beer, I would probably would have giving it a higher rating had I had it in the cold winters here in Michigan. Maybe Ill rerate this one later.
