jvmiller (252), Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, USA Nov 19, 2007 Pretty solid. A little more chocolate than I’m used to, I would’ve liked some more roasted flavor. Quite smooth on the palate. Enjoyable micro. Tmoney99 (3429), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 31, 2007 Draft sampler at North Peak. Poured a clear dark brown color with a moderate fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted bittersweet aroma. Medium body. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration duration. More my style brew. beerbuzzmontreal (2674), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 10, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with brown highlights and a thin light brown head. Mild aroma and flavor of chocolate. The body is light and oily with soft carbonation. Ordinary. CharlesDarwin (1336), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2006 Bouquet of roasted cocoa nibs, replete with coffee grain edges and a whole multitude of full roasted malt character. Sugary and glowing. Pour of oily dark black, glinted with ruby and crowned with a smooth frothy cream of deep tan. Flavor is a toasted sweet cream malt, with bold edgings of charcoal seared beef and levels of soyish umami. A cerebreal saltiness holds fresh candied almond sugars and rounded oak. Unleashed in the palate is fading sweetness and light percolation. Far away, a bite of planty hop resins yields balance. It really plays first as an entry-level mid-attitude porter, but maintains a heavy hand of steam to be respectable and steady. I was surprised to learn this was brewed by JP and I almost feel like I can reach out and touch a little of his mastery in this contract. Zinister (835), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 17, 2006 Tap at brewery. Black as night with thin head. Chocolate nose with some coffee notes. Taste is much the same...which is great. Toasted malts, mocha and prunes on the finish. Very nice porter.
