Pour on tap at the brewpub, thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big chocolate, raspberry, some slight roasted malt into a bit of caramel, slight coffee note with some slight yeast. Taste was a mix of chocolate, coffee, and raspberry up front, some slight roasted malt, caramel, some spice, finishing sweet. Tasty, but would be tough to drink more than a few ounces.

On tap at Northbound. Dark pour with a slightly fruity and chocolatey nose, but less aroma than you’d expect. Taste is lightly tart, medium malty, and slightly bitter/toasty on the finish. Flavors of raspberry, smooth cocoa, and roasty malts. Very nice!

Third year Snownami poured from a growler purchased on the day of release. Appears black with a light brown head. Aroma is faint chocolate with a strong fruit note (probably from the raspberries). No other aromas present. Taste is chocolate up front followed by a slight bitterness that often accompanies brew infused with coffee on some way. Next is an almost lambic taste. Definitely fruit but truly undiscernable. Very little aftertaste other than very slight bitter chocolate. Palate is different than most. It has an immediate velvet texture until the carbonation catches up. Then there is a sight burn that lasts seconds before it all melts away. Overall a good beer. Low drinkability. Attempts to be highly complex with ingredients but falls short. Especially for Northbound. I believe if less raspberries were used and either aging it, longer fermentation (or other Brewer tricks), or adding other ingredients could make this beer epic and rival Darkness. I do recommend this beer however.

Small pour, on draft at Winterfest 2014 in St. Paul, MN. Consumed on 1-31-14. Given the high ABV, I would re-classify this as an imperial stout (listed in the database as a sweet stout as of this writing). Pours dark brown. Grappa-esque smell features chocolate, raspberry, and light paint or paper mache scents. The latter aspects are unfortunate and detract a bit from an otherwise enjoyable aroma. Sweet, rich, chocolate taste also shows a hint of raspberry tang. This is a quite good and enjoyable dessert beer, and it would pair well with rich chocolate cake, brownies, or tart fruits. It was one of the better beers I sampled at the festival and now stands as one of my favorites that I have tried from Northbound. Well done, although it could be even better with some tweaking to the nose.

On tap at Northbound. Super nice black pour with a ring of tan head. Aroma is some nice chocolate with a hint of dark malt and nice raspberry as well. Taste is raspberry upfront and finishes with a really smooth chocolate and malt, not too sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at the brewpub. This is magnificent. Dark pour, small creamy ring head. Cocoa powder pouring out on aroma and a nice raspberry sweetness to complement it. Excellent.

Draft at brewpub. Opaque black pour, light aroma (sad-face), thin head with minimal lacing. Taste is excellent, a great balance with fruitiness (raspberry, duh!), malty sweetness, dark chocolate, mild hops, some liquor flavor - 8.5% abv. The strength in this brew is in subtlety, as it achieves it's complexity without being overbearing. ---Rated whilst imbibing
