Beer Snob (348), Ontario, Canada Jul 22, 2005 Diminshed expectations be damned, this is weak stuff.
But it looks very nice - oddly dark for a lager. In fact, a brown/ruby that holds out much promise. But the promise is soon ruined by the overwhelmingly sweet aroma. Tastes bland - has a hint of maple but not much else going for it. A metallic sourness was the only aftertaste I could discover.
Not an auspicious start to the weekend.
DarkElf (2627), La Jolla, California, USA Nov 11, 2007 13-Mar-07 (341 ml bottle: Obtained in trade with blankboy, thanks Paul!) This dark lager is dominated by a very toasty malt and is only lightly sweet. Hints of nuts and earth add a bit of complexity, but hops contribution is minimal and the addition of maple syrup doesn’t even register on my taste buds. The beer is light-medium in body and pretty inoffensive on the palate. Slightly hazy, amber-brown in color, with an off-white head that is small on the pour and dissipates fairly quickly. Not a bad beer by any means, but outside of the toasty malts, there’s nothing else to draw any interest from me. tomthompson89 (1100), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 29, 2007 kinda brown copper color, thin off white head, has odd citrus nose and some grassy hops toasted malts little bit of hops show up in the finish decent mouth feel MarkoR (224), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 18, 2007 Overall a good beer with aromas of maple and caramel. Almost syropy. Pours a nice dark amber color. hopdog (4525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2006 12oz bottle acquired in trade with blankboy (thanks!). Poured a deep reddish-amber/copper color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of maple, caramel and nuts. Tastes of maple, caramel, roast, and very light chocolate. shintriad (663), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 3, 2006 Draught. Afraid this could go head-to-head with Rickard’s for the most insipid red-hued barleypop. Very light, semi-sweet, malty profile with a fizzy body. Metallic and earthy overtones. Not impressive.
