Cask conditioned handpump Wig & Pen Northampton 04/12/12. A black beer with an off-white head and lace. Roasty coffee throughout with what I thought to be whiskey barrel tendencies. Smooth and tasty with late bitterness. Boozy and very good indeed.

500ml bottle from a brewery just up the road from me. Lively pour that results in a large head atop a dark brown base. Aroma of smoke and treacle. Roasted taste, medium bodied, slightly oily on the tongue with some fizz from the carbonation. Definitely a bit of a liquorice vibe too. Decent stuff, lacking a bit in the complexity stakes though.

Cask at GBBF 2011. Black color. Plenty of coffee in aroma. Roasty coffee flavor with with nuts and toffee in the background. Nice dark fruity coffee character which brings arabica espresso to mind. Licorice is restrainden, which is good.

Bottle. Dark and flat with low carbonation. Some chocolate is present as is a trace of liquorice. A bit lacking in body and not very distinctive.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shoulderbroken (1172) - Tokyo, JAPAN - OCT 24, 2011
Cask at Pineapple beer fest. Dark red brown, almost black colour. No head. Aroma is spicy, cinnamon, oaty, bit of dark chocolate. Gives a bit of a tingle in the mouth. Taste is oaty, liquorice and roasted malts. Bit of coffee which gives it a nice bitter finish. Don’t liquorice, but I seem to like liquorice beers which is a bit weird.

Cask at GBBF 2011, Day 2. Pours dark brown with a bubbly, off-white head. Chocolate and chalk roast malt nose. Some sharp coffee in the flavor, medium sweetness, bit of sweet mocha. Medium in body with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, dark sugar, mild roast. Lingering mocha, which is quite, quite good.

Cask (GBBF2011)
Black, not much head. Roasted aroma. Not too sweet, roasty and slightly chocolatey finish. Tasty. Only Anna got her mitts on this, much to Phil’s chagrin.
