6 Smoky dusty raspberry aroma. 3 Pale orange, tiny head. 6 Sweet raspberry over a simple malt base 3 Soft palate, carbonation low. Oddly smoky finish. 11 Simple sweet fruity ale. Not my style, but nothing actually wrong with it.

Cask (handpump) at the Smithfield, Manchester. Very pale straw/gold colour. Strong raspberry aroma and flavour - the pub had found it necessary to add a warning sticker saying "raspberry flavour" over the pump clip. Not a lot else. Plenty of fruit but it had a somewhat syrupy, synthetic feel. And, like many UK attempts at fruit beers, the fruit didn’t seem perfectly integrated with the underlying beer. Decent attempt but not quite there.

Cask, The Crown, Nuneaton. Dark gold lagery looks with a rim of white. Brazen raspberry juice aroma. Utterly dominated by added fruit juice, but not aggressively unpleasant. No hop or malt-derived flavours discernible. Smothering raspberry ripple sweetness without balance. It’s not proper beer, is it?
