This rich dark ale comes to Northwest beer connoisseurs with roots of German origin. Generous portions of Crystal, Munich, and Chocolate malt combine to create an Ale of extraordinary complexity and smoothness. Modestly hopped utilizing Yakima Valley Liberty hops, the Dunkel finishes slightly sweet with Carmel and Chocolate flavors.

Tap at Maxs. Red-black-brown. Thin beige head, steady. Semi sweet chocolate tones, very mild, clean, fresh. A touch of underlying raisin fruity sourness, maybe not infected but a touch odd for the style..in a good way. Still a quality example of a generally cheaply made style.

On tap at Churchkey. Dark muddy brown pour with off white head. Aroma of chocolate, German yeast, some weird grassy notes as well. Taste is light, slightly sweet, chocolate and grassy hops. Palate is light and a bit flat. None too charming although drinkable.

deep brown (like a porter, so on the darker side of the dunkel category). Aroma/Flavor are lager-yeast notes, somewhat sweet due to clean malt flavors, chocolaty, with some fruity cherry notes from the chocolate.

Chocolate, caramel, a little roast, lightly sweet sugars underneat, a little earthy on the nose. Perhaps slightly sour/tart as well. Pours dark brown, no head, decent clarity. The flavor is chocolate up front, toasted roasted notes in the middle, a hint of tart in the finish with more chocolate showing up late. Somewhat crisp finish that kind of just falls off after time.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear mahogany colour, no head. Cardboardy nose. Fairly light bodied with clean, hard mouthfeel. Edgy and cardboardy with low bitterness. Very harsh and messy.

Sample at brewery. Brown with ruby edges, foamy tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, caramel, has a German aroma overall though. Taste was kind of weird, plasticy, some cocoa bitterness, caramel, butter. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Draft, April Brews Day. Dark brown pour, small head. This has a toasty, nutty chocolate aroma. The flavor is much the same, gentle chocolate nuttiness, with a bit of a metallic lager taste to it and a light acidicty. Melow, clean, and very drinkable.
