cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2009 Draft at Sourfest ’09 at Brouwer’s for Seattle Beer Week. Pours a nice dark brown with a little tan head. Very woody aroma dominated by the whiskey and a sweet caramel. Tastes a little sweet with a sour finish and got significantly better as it warmed. This was a bit fizzy, but incredibly smooth. I seemed to have liked this more than others, but this was one of the highlights of Sourfest for me. And happily, my 100th Ratebeer.com rating! Aroma: This was sour in the aroma but that was all.
Appearance: Amber in color, hazy with a thin head.
Flavor: Funky flavors this beer was off had some oak and whiskey flavors and was sour but was missing some key flavors and was too buttery and dactyl.
Palate: Dry sour finish, with a ok Mouthfeel.
Overall: Just did not hit the mark I was really hoping for a killer whiskey beer with some sour. This was over sour with very faint whiskey and just missed the boat and was very dactyl.
gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA May 17, 2009 On tap for SBW Sour Fest; one of 16 tried. It’s got whiskey, it’s sour, it must be good, right? Not yet. The aromas are great--whiskey, caramel, vanilla, oak and roasted malts. The flavor starts sour, moves into funk and oak, leaving a bit of bitter over vanilla. The major problem is that the taste lingers and lingers--not on a positive note. Just too woody. carruthm (1109), Seattle, Washington, USA May 16, 2009 On tap at Brouwer’s Sour Fest. Dark black with a thin head that was slightly off white. The Aroma was syrupy with whiskey, chocolate and cream. Very nice. The taste was like the aroma but with sour elements mixed in and a very pronounced oak character that was overpowering. Needs less wood or more aging. Could be a good one down the line. acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA May 15, 2009 Wonderful aroma; oak, chocolate, brandy and wheat. Beautiful dark brown withe small gray head. All downhill from there. Flavor of liquid Smarties and skunked Macro combined with far too much oak. A shame considering the aroma; one of the loveliest I’ve come across. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA Mar 30, 2009 3/30/09 on draft at Beberidge Place, Seattle, Wa. Aroma is rich woody aroma with tons of molasses and caramel. Appearance is clear brown with no head. Flavor is highly sour with a funky tang and candilike sharpness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, highly creamy, with almost no carb texture. Overall, big and interesting, could be better carbonated.
