hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2009 22oz bottle acquired in trade with riversideAK (thanks!). Poured a medium amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of earthiness, floral hops, lighter pine, and some citrus rinds. Tastes of fruitiness, caramel, lighter earthiness, and caramel. Some hoppy, spiciness in the finish as well. vacantskies (79), Spokane, Washington, USA Jan 11, 2009 Got on tap at the brewery. Aroma is citrus and fruity. It has a rich dark amber color. Starts with citrus flavors giving way to a hoppy finish. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jan 8, 2009 Aroma is malty with hints of biscuits, caramel, and some ale fruitiness. Hops are spicy and floral and rather strongly detectable. Pours a hazy brownish orange with a great lasting head and sticky icky lacing. Nice highly hopped strongly malty IPA. Notes of biscuit, bread, and sweetness followed by a long bitter fruit, pepper, and floral hop bite. Lingering bitterness is dry and resiny. Really tasty Winter Warmer/IPA hybrid. I really liked this actually. A lot. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Dec 26, 2008 Pours out a hazy brown with some amber topped with a white head. A great malty aroma and a light spice on this one. Tast of hops and more of the thick malts. Not a bad winter brew. BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA Dec 12, 2008 Taster – Washington Winter Beer Festival – Seattle, WA – Big malt aroma and flavor. This had some awesome spices and fruitiness was like that of dried fruit. Very hoppy also. But really this is not a IPA. It is a winter warmer. markgugs (86), Wood Ridge, New Jersey, USA Feb 10, 2008 poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass, thanks to my friend David from Spokane
A: Pours a cloudy brown with amber edges, with a minor 1/2-finger tall bubbly white head. Some minor lacing appears, but doesn’t stick around too long.
S: Aromas are predominantly roasted malts with some minor spicing to complement it, I do wish a more pronounced hop boutique would make itself known.
T/M: Why? Because this beer is seriously hoppy! Right off the bat, the hops bite your tongue, it’s a bruiser! And it’s well-crafted too, as a sweetly roasted body balances things out, before the hop bitterness batters the palate again. Some notes of orange & nutmeg spicing are present too, but nowhere near overpowering. Great silky mouthfeel spreads these great flavors throughout as well.
D: This beer was superb, provided your tongue can handle the bruising hops, I highly recommend it. truegen (164), Puyallup, Washington, USA Feb 2, 2008 22 oz. bomber from 99 Bottles in Federal Way. Pours translucent red/amber with a generous head. Good lacing throughout. Malty, hoppy, piney/sprucey in the tradition of Rogue’s Santa’s Private Reserve and Sierra Nevada’s Celebration. This is very smooth, and a really impressive brew. Let’s see if it ages well. asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA Dec 4, 2007 On tap at Winter Beer Festival. Pours and reddish-brown color with a small head on top. Aroma is a nice mixture of sweet caramel malts and citrusy hops. This beer was a nice twist on a traditional IPA with fruity flavors hitting the tongue. Not overbearing and well-pronounced just a nice hint of a touch. A tasty winter ale!
