Commercial Description:
MIGRATION DARK ALE is a dark, strong beer brewed to celebrate the 'seasonal' migration of the humpback whales. It is full of complex rich, malty flavours. A real winter warmer!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium white head. Malty aroma with chocolate and fruit notes. The flavour is sweet malt, chocolate and fruit. This is pretty good and a nice surprise from these guys. It has a good mouthfeel and malt backbone, with a dry and bitter finish. I raise my glass to the humpback’s...keep doing what you do.

Bottle (330ml) 6.2%. Poured deep dark hazy brown with a dense, tanned creamy head which lasted very well. Aroma was of toasted malts with light port notes, muscatels, dusty dark chocolate, sticky fruit cake and some light woody notes in the back. Flavor was also of toasted malts with bitter chocolate, ripe plums, caramelized figs, light notes of port and a slightly smoky finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry toasted mouthfeel and a great finish. Seemed more along the lines of an “English Strong Ale” to me and a decent one at that.

330ml. Poured a coppery colour with a large rocky tan head. Aroma of burnt toffee and malt. Strong thick flavour, rum and raisin with a hint of chocolate at the finish.

Good on the pour; very dark brown with a modest head that is well formed. Aromas are atypical, well at least to me. Shows more than a hint of passionfruit, which believe it or not mates quite well with the not unexpected darker malts. I swear there’s a touch of fruit popping up again very early in the palate. Works ok. This beer shouldn’t be an object of attraction but it is.

Presented pretty well in the glass, deep ruby red body with a light tan head. Bit of chocolate, a bit of fruit and a bit of smoke in the taste. Fairly smooth taste and good aroma especially when it has warmed a little.

Sweet malt chocolate aroma. Brown colour with great head and lacing. Sweet malt flavour with a hint of fruit and chocolate. Smooth palate.
