COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our take on a traditional English Sweet Stout, a style once prescribed as a nutritional supplement and one of our brewer’s favorite beer styles. Sparse hopping and the addition of lactose creates a wonderful sweetness and body that perfectly compliment the beer’s roasted malt and coffee notes.

Roast malt and coffee nose. Palate follows suit. Some nice milk chocolate notes. Finish is smooth yet short due to light abv. Really liked it

Small pour, on draft at Winterfest 2014 in St. Paul, MN. Consumed on 1-31-14. Pours a medium to dark brown. Weak, roasted malt smell. Much dryer than I expected in the flavor. Smoky. Low in aroma and flavor. Too light to impress. Not actively offensive, but easily the most boring beer I consumed at the festival (although, in fairness, it probably had the lowest ABV), and ultimately my lowest rated from the event. Oh well, it’s hard to stand out in such a bland style category. I know Northgate wants to brew session ales, but it is going to have to go bigger if it wants to make a dent in the Twin Cities beer scene (apparently it is indeed starting to do so). I am frankly shocked by the good reviews that this beer has been getting simply because it is just so bland.

Very dark head--quite intriguing. The initial sense of it is affected by a very airy body; not quite nitro but still fluffy. That settles down and improves it some. Smokey, roasted flavors with a moderate sweetness, like a coffee with cream and sugar. Decently balanced. (on tap at Saffron, Minneapolis)

Medium dark roasted flavors are complimented by a creamy mouthfeel and frothy tan head. Very nice!

Balanced. Complex. Well developed flavor. Sweet and creamy but also toasty and crisp. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Stub and Herbs, big aromas of malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is a bit of sweet/lactose like flavors and fades into a nice pleasant coffee bitterness, great brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
