Northshire Chocolate Stout is a British style chocolate stout, brewed with chocolate malt, imported English malt and hops, with a secret chocolate addition. Robust and full flavored with a balanced bitterness, chocolate character and a delicious finish.

From the 650 ml. bottle. It is a nice looking pour with a dark brown color building up to a modest little tan head the fads to a ring. But then this takes an entirely sour turn in my opinion. Cherry and champagne tartness on the nose with only a muted note of chocolate. Thin body. The cherry and tart character really supersedes anything remotely resembling chocolate in the flavor. Tastes more like a Sour than a chocolate malt. Sour fans would like it. Stout fans...not so much.

Bottle. Pours near black with a thin beige head. Lightly roasted malts, semi-sweet chocolate, and lighter fruity notes. Rich, but a bit thin on the palate. Not bad.

22oz bomber from Scott. Poured a little bit on the thin side, far dark brownish black body with a small foamy dark beige head. Aroma of light old chocolate, medium done toast, a touch of sour milk and some green leafy veggies. Body is very full and creamy with average carbonation and a quicker fading aftertaste. Flavor is chocolate malts, toast, coccoa powder, toast and a touch of milk. Meh, not impressed.

Pours dark brown with a thin off white head. Smells of chocolate, some breaddy undertones. Tastes of chocolate, some peppery hints, earthy with a velvety finish. Good drinking winter beer.

Bottle courtesy of chriso, darker pour. Roasty aroma with underlying sourness. Sourness continues into flavor, mild roast. Infection??

22 oz. bottle from Hunger Mountain Co-op. Paid $5.39. English pint shows black color with lasting, frothy off-white head. Pleasant nose of cocoa powder and roasted malt. The body is thin, on the border of water. But it still has drinkability of an everyday stout. Roasted malt, chocolate powder and just the lightest touch of coffee.

September 30, 2011 with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. My bomber. Black pour, smallish creamy/frothy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, weak alcohol - dry, not sweet, a little oily. Taste follows, a little earthy. Average body, a little syrupy, mild carbonation, a fairly long low-level earthy, somewhat herbal finish - surprisingly drinkable.

Pours a one finger khaki head that fades to thin layer, leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights. Very light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Smell: hints of coffee and chocolate and flavor is roasted-burnt coffee and essence of chocolate. Not my idea of a chocolate stout, needs more chocolate and carbonation. $3.99 for a 22oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, Vt.

Pours a solid dark brown with the faintest of garnet highlights when held to light. Creamy tan head shows great retention and lacing. Smells of roasted coffee and chocolate with a hint of wet dog. Taste is chocolate and light coffee with a bit of caramel and butterscotch and a bit of lactose sweetness. Medium to thin body with a light level of carbonation and a slick oily mouthfeel. Nothing objectionable here, but nothing horribly exciting either. I’d have loved some more body and maybe some more chocolate.
