One of Montaigu’s first beers - and an attempt at porter, for that matter. Light beige, creamy head over a murky bronze beer showing an aroma of candied fruits, chocolate, hazelnuts but unfortunately some DMS (cooked cabbage) too. Sweetish taste of candied dates, esters, candi sugar, rich dark maltiness, some vague smokiness and light roasted bitterness in the end. Acceptable, but I had much better porters. It is clear this is a style Belgian brewers are not yet familiar with.

Very hazy dark brown with a large, creamy and lacy head. Slightly sweet, licoricey nose with lightly roasted malt and a touch of tartness.

Dark, reddish brown body. Hints of chocolate and roasted coffee. Roasty chocolate flavors slightly smokey.

Brown colour, cream/beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark candy sugar, chocolate and caramel. Bit mineral. Milky flavour, chocolate, malts, caramel and coffee. Creamy body, finish chocolate, candy sugar and caramel.
(From 33cL bottle @ RBESG ’13, post-’Grand Tasting’ drink - Eet & Bierlokaal De Molen outdoor seating. Thanks for sharing, 77ships!)

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing tis bottle. Brown with a tan head. The aroma is full of licorice with some Belgian yeast and roasted malt. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of roasted malt, with some dark fruit and a light amount of smoke coming through. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

33 cl. bottle split / sampled @ Eet & Bierlokaal De Molen during RBESG 2013. Pours a dark brown, big tanned head. Nose carries faint iron, caramel, malts, cacao, sweet yeast. Taste is sweet caramel, brown sugar, sweet BE yeast, coffee, light roast. Slightly creamy body, really surprised by this one. Easily exceeded my expectations.
