Cask Black Lion Leighton Buzzard. Amber coloured. No head. Sweet on the nose. Fruitcake leading into a short lived subdued bitter aftertaste. Not very exciting but also unpleasant.

BlackHaddock (3772) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2013
Hand-pulled half-pint on 23rd Nov in The Old Blenheim, Oxford. Deep golden amber body, minimal head. The nose was mild, some caramel biscuit hints if you sniff hard enough. The taste was also caramel led, though this isnít a sweet beer: itís balanced with subtle hop influences intermingling with those malt molasses. Nothing strong or heavy, just a pleasant tasting beer.

Golden bitter with a lovely smooth feel in the palate. Lightest of malts in the aroma. No real flavour but this is a texture ale. Small thin head.

Cask at the Beehive, St. Johns Hill, 12th Sept 2010. Clear orange amber with a small lacy white head. Toffeeish, stewed cold tea flavour and malty nose. Quite heavy palate. Overall rather disappointing and flat.

Had this at the Cambridge Beer Festival, wasnít making too many notes that day: A reasonably unremarkable but sessionable bitter. Well balanced.

Cask - Ketts Tavern, Norwich. A dark golden to light amber colour with a bubbly, sparse white head. A touch of acidity both in aroma and flavour; reminiscent of a cider. Citric, floral hop nose with a citric flavour profile and a notable apple taste. A light bitter finish and a lip-smacking grapefruit aftertaste. Pleasant mouthfeel: crisp, refreshing; dry.

Cask At The Rake (Borough). Hazy medium amber pour with an average frothy white head. I found this one just a wee bit too acidic - a strong, catty aroma, quite a weak malt base. The taste followed, sour bitterness and weak grain. Wan body, sort of flat on the palate even for cask, with a somewhat harshly sour finish. Iím not sure what this needed - more body? Crisper hops? - but it just wasnít there for me, weak, thin and sour.
