Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
First brewed by Nottingham Brewery in the 1800's as a refreshing quaffing ale for the thirsty factory workers in the city. Slightly paler than traditional bitter beers of the time it was the forerunner of the India Pale Ale for which the brewery was to become famous and transported thousands and thousands of gallons to the troops of the British Empire all around the globe.

Gravity cask at the Pembury Tavern on 15th July 2009 during the pub’s summer festival. Aliased on cask label as "Nottingham Rock Ale". Crystal clear gold with small off-white head of creamy nature. Light malt/hop initial aromas with grass and grapefruit featuring. Then a hempy hop kick with some slight savoury notes - cheese in the forefront and a slightly herby nose. Finish is bitter, slightly saline/salty on an engagingly textured mouthfeel. A delicious, more-ish session ale, very enjoyable indeed.

Cask at the Roebuck (JDW), Nottingham. Bright straw with a thin white head; light fresh citrus aroma; citrus flavour too, with a honeyed sweetness that fights against the bitterness in the finish.

Cask at the Approach, Nottingham. This enjoyable beer has a hazy pale golden colour and a light buttery and citrus aroma. It has a nice, sweet malty taste with notes of citrus hop on the finish. This makes a great session bitter and might be my local favourite of its type if it weren’t for Castle Rock Harvest Pale.

Cask conditioned - handpump - The Bell - Nottingham. A golden beer with a white head and lacing. The aroma is sweet and lemony. There are perfumed notes in the nose which carry through to the taste together with lemon hoppy notes again. Quite floral. Possibly served too cool but I was hot from walking when I got there so this was more than welcome.

Cask, The Last Plantagenet, Leicester. Golden with a dense white head. Aromas are light biscuit and butter malts with some citrus. Hoppy an fresh with some pineapple. Flavours are sweet biscuit and caramel with mellow but bitter lemon. Some pineapple with good hops. Dry and prickly on the finish.

A Mes rate: Cask at Spooners Bar in Porthmadog. Another jolly fine serving from what will now be a regular visit for us when we are in Wales. Almost golden colour. Very hoppy and fresh aroma. Flowery citric all the way in the flavour and just generally very fresh, grassy and hoppy. Perfect session beer, supremely quaffable. Bitter finish but lonnnnng and with creamy lemons. Fine stuff.

Cask at the Plough Inn, Nottingham, home of the Nottingham Brewery. Golden colour with a hoppy aroma. Taste was sharp, crisp, with plenty of citrus. Mid to strong bitter finish. Excellent.
