In the US, called BrouCzech Dark.

Pyrope or Bohemian garnet stones were randomly collected in our territory by ancient Celts. It is a stone of all-binding fire, passion as well as purity of heart. However, it is generally known as a stone of love. Thanks to its typical colour, its name has been used metaphorically in connection with the colour of dark and semi-dark beers. Granat from Nova Paka is a dark sweeter lager with quality rich foam that is suitable for mixing pale types; alcohol 5%.

(Draught at Pivovarsky Klub, Prague, 19 July 2013) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of caramel, toasty malt and chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, caramel, raisins and a gentle bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Well balanced and tasty. Quite nice.

Don’t know why they made this a new style. It’s so fuckin’ boring. The aroma is malty, brown sugar, coked vegetables. The appearance is dark brown, slight translucence, off white head. The flavor is like the aroma, malty, brown sugar, cooked vegetables. The finish is noble hops, lingering sweetness. Medium in body. OK, nothing great.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2014 Not much on the nose ... malty, maybe a bit herbal. Nice looking beer. Medium dark, light-brown head that quickly dissipates but lingers on the glass. Not overly carbonated. Almost like the beer is a cross between a dark lager and a bit of a stout. Dark, rich roasted flavors, chocolate/coffee with some creaminess, maybe a little bit sweet at first but dry on the finish. Hints of wood, charcoal, moderate bitterness ... tastes linger on the palate. Overall, a rich, chewy, enjoyable beer.

Tap at Novopacka pivaren. Aroma mild once again, DMS vegetal astringency, light coffee. Dark brown colour, clear. Beige head, moderate duration. Taste is roasty up front, acompanied by the tragic DMS. Overall more drinkable than Krystof, but still poor.

Bottle at Half time. Low nose of caramelized malts. Standard brown with a low off white head. Body is sweet caramel augmented with a light nuttiness. Very drinkable. Body is moderate and unflinchingly steady. Finish is same as body.
