Commercial Description:
Albrecht Wenceslas Eusebius of Wallenstein came from an impecunious branch of the feudal family of Wallenstein. During the Czech uprising, he deserted to the service of the Habsburg family under scandalous circumstances and thereby he earned the highest rewards. The Emperor granted him the title of Duke of Frydlant and authorized him to be the commander-in-chief of his army. Albrecht of Wallenstein greatly contributed to the development of the region of East Bohemia. We named the pale speciality after him. Thanks to its taste distribution, it will surely satisfy the fans of strong, quite bitter beer with good foam; alcohol 7%.

Bottle, 7.0%. Clear golden colour. Small stable white head. OK malty flavour, weak hint of smoke. Caramelly note, but overpowered by a slightly rough bitterness.

Bottle. Pours coppery golden color with frothy off-white head. Distinct Novopacké characters in the aroma. Moderate grassiness with earth and slight pine notes. Very crisp grassy flavor with slightly oily texture. It has some citrus and herbal character as well. Leaves strongly dry, long grassy aftertaste at the back of the tongue. Impressive one.

Labeled as Brou Czech Bock. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright golden-amber color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma was sour, tangy and almost skunky. The flavor was bitter, tangy and a bit off with sweet malty and light floral hops. The off flavors linger. Not impressed.

Labeled as: Valstejn Novopacke Pivo; Clear light copper coloured body with an amber glow and a very thin tan head. Larger bubbles rise from the bottom and show some liveliness. Aroma of fresh malt, nice sugars, peaches and clean fruit along with a subtle and understated hop scent. Medium-bodied; Strong astringent maltiness with yeast, metal and fruits up in your face. Massive malt and bitterness in the palate with some light fruits and alcohol showing, but only minuscule amounts. Overall, an overpowering and slightly overmalted beer - nice to try, but not my favourite from Ceska Republica. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Galerie Piva in Praha 1, Prague, Czech Republic on 14-March-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 08-February-2009.

Bottled. Pours golden to copper. Large head is white, dense and creamy. Distinctive, a bit strange aroma with spicy and herbal tones. Could almost be a Belgian blonde. Hops have some lemon. Malts are sweetish and a mildly roasted. The finish long, spicy and quite bitter. Palate is at least medium bodied, a bit fizzy carbonated and dry in the finish. Somehow this beer is always interesting to have.
