UPDATED: MAY 25, 2015 On tap. Weak malty aroma. Taste is sweet with caramel notes. Overall it’s average beer.

On tap at the restaurant. Meaty brown color with a thin, light tan head. Mild yeast and malt flavors, but they don’t stick around long. The pils isn’t worth your time either, and the food costs twice what you’d pay in any other pub in the city. A complete tourist trap.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2008 First experience on tap at the brewpub, in 2005:

The Lure:
Portentous caramel and its companion butterscotch cover the quaint roastiness. Another great lingering head (as is Czech tap tradition it seems) beckons a dive for a hearty sip.

The Festivities:
Just like their Svetlé, this beer’s flavors offer exactly what the aroma had sent. A few fruity esters become more obvious (cherries for example), and the caramel and butterscotch sweetness create a stout-y feel for a dunkel. Body is quite watery though, which doesn’t help the sweetness much. Gets heavier and more tiring through the pint. 3.3/5

The lightest item at a candy shop is still some sort of candy.

Second tap experience, in 2008:
A buttery touch didn’t agree with the dry roastiness and the fruity presence got dusty with because of the fatiguing yeast. Not nearly as good as 3 years ago. 2.5/5

Tap (@the brewery): Hazy, dark amber to brownish coloured, lacing off-white foam; yeast, roast malt and sweet caramel in the nose; slightly sweetish and faint bitter flavour, quite light bodied; a bit dryer, short malty finish with an illusion of bitterness. Well drinkable, but not overwhelming...............

Draught, Novomestsky/Praha. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium to dark brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread, cocoa, cookie), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of soap. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. More soap in this one, though not as much as the svetly. Watery and bland.

On tap at the brew pub. Ruby/chestnut with lasting thick beige head. Like a lot of these beers, lots of toffee, bit watery in mouth, a bit of hop one the end. But the toffee isn’t integrated and flies around giong nowhere. Not enough malt burnt/roasted flavours nor body. Not as good as the blond
