3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (2350) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2012
Brown 33cl bottle, best before 31st Dec 2012. Poured into a ’Hoegaarden Grand Cru’ stemmed tulip. This is the first beer in an ’odd ball reviewing evening’ (June 2011).
Almost pilsner in looks, bright golden yellow with a good deep snow white foaming head. I left the sediment in the bottle, hence the clean, clear appearance.
The yeasty aroma tells you it isn’t a pilsner, the smell is a good blend of mixed herbs and spices along with the yeast esters.
The flavours found in the smell are all there within the taste also, lovely well balanced brew which has good carbonisation and an alcohol content that is happy to stay in the background rather than taking over like some beers within this style. A peppery feel in the aftertatse, very pleasant.
A good beer, easy to drink and one of the best I’ve had from France (who as brewers are going up in my estimation).
