Real Blond Ale
A combination of strength and subtlety. A pure malt beer with a wide palette of flavours to drink as an aperitif or to be served with country-style cooking (mussels and chips, herrings, poultry, stews etc.).

Bottle bought in Calais. The beer pours out in a hazy blonde colour with big steady head and smooth body. Aroma of Belgian yeast and flowers. Taste of Belgian yeast, wheat, flowers, cake and bread. Sweet finish with grainy hints. Drinkable, yet nothing special.

Mit McTapps geteilt. Nicht Besonders mit ein wenig Vanille, etwas Hefe und leichter Suesse. Hohe Perlung, etwas Butter und ein wenig Weizen. Ganz ok.

Bottle thanks to my bosses at utobeer. Alround rating: Pale and slightly grainy malts, grassy peppery hop, belgian yeast dominates, wehat character dulls it all to make it drinkable, but its boring.

Bottle. Gift from a business partner of Chrissie. Hot fermentation. Some spice. Some dirty yeast. Fruit. Blonde. Drinkable, but unexciting. Basic stuff.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 31st Dec 2012. Poured into a ’Hoegaarden Grand Cru’ stemmed tulip. This is the first beer in an ’odd ball reviewing evening’ (June 2011). Almost pilsner in looks, bright golden yellow with a good deep snow white foaming head. I left the sediment in the bottle, hence the clean, clear appearance. The yeasty aroma tells you it isn’t a pilsner, the smell is a good blend of mixed herbs and spices along with the yeast esters. The flavours found in the smell are all there within the taste also, lovely well balanced brew which has good carbonisation and an alcohol content that is happy to stay in the background rather than taking over like some beers within this style. A peppery feel in the aftertatse, very pleasant. A good beer, easy to drink and one of the best I’ve had from France (who as brewers are going up in my estimation).

Bottle. Pours clear golden with airy but stable white head. Clear aroma of fruit and fart, with estery and malty notes and touches of hops. Sweetish, flowery and perfumed flavour, with fruity and hoppy notes and touches of malt and yeast. Bitterish and slightly acidic aftertaste. High carbonation but rather watery. Nothing special.

75 cl bottle. Hazy pale golden colour, with a big cottony head. Clearly very bread/yeasty aroma with hints of citrus. Bit raw in aroma profile. Good fruity flavour with dough and yeast. Hints of light caramel. Fluffy, big-ish mouthfeel, at least at this abv-level. Very reminiscent of those blonde Abbey beers. Light sweet and semi-dry. No cellar in this one. It ought to be aged for at least half a year.
