In 75 cl bottle. As an accompanist at cooked mussels. 1/3 with the mussels in the pan to cook. Taste of the mussels just fine. Beer has black color as the name implies. Scent of roasted malt. Taste is toast, roasted and bitter.

Noir c’est Noir !
Une stout au noir intense et a la belle mousse persistante. Les aromes traditionnels de cafe et de chocolat montent vite au nez et se retrouvent egalement sur le final. Une belle rondeur et un equilibre bien travaille. Elle sent "la mer" cette belle Stout des 2 Caps !

750mm corked dark glass bottle - gift from the brewer, via Chrissie. A modest but pleasant and very drinkable dark beer. A little watery in places - especially for a 5.4% dark beer - suggestive of a slow, cool fermentation. Attractive flavours - quite soft and acceptable - never challenging, but also, never quite interesting either. Probably one of the blandest dark beers you’ll have outside of a dark lager - but then it probably is a dark lager anyway.

33cl bottle @ home [thanks to my parents for bringing this from holiday] shared with Dutchdrebus. Almost pitch black color, when held into the light theirs a red gaze coming through. Small to medium light brown head. Smell dark malts, ash, earth and lightly smoke. Taste dark malts, slightly roasty and ash. Medium body, medium carbo. Nice one.

Bottle @ benzai. Dark brown to black color with some redness shining through. Smells roasty mostly.. Not much more, but thats not a bad thing. Tastes lovely roasty, coffee and some oatmeal aftertaste. Quite a nice stout. Medium body (not bad for its abv), nice carbo.

On tap in the Bonte Koe, Well it’s black, very black. Nice a chocolately flavour to it with an interesting dry aftertaste.

Mousse : Compact, bulle epaisse en surace, tenue moyenne, couleur crème/white coffee
Robe : Noire, très sombre, très opaque aucune translucidité
Nez : Malt torréfié, céréales grillées, fumé très léger
Bouche: Faible pétillance, mais présente, effervescence, très fine bulles
Gout et Arôme : Metallique, malt grillé/brulé, malt fumé/tourbé, tenue en bouche longue, belle équilibre entre céréale et houblonnage. Belle amertume.
Appréciation personnel : très spécial dans son style, beaucoup de finesse, très légerement alcoolisé, frais et raffraichissant affichant un corp svelte mais soutenu.

Foam: Compact, thick bubble in Surace, medium hold, cream / white coffee
Colour: Black, very dark, very opaque, no translucency
Nose: Malt, roasted, toasted cereals, smoked very light
Palate: Light sparkle, but this, effervescence, fine bubbles
Taste and Aroma: Metallic, roasted malt / burned, smoked malt / peaty, long on the palate, beautiful balance between grain and hops. Nice bitterness.
Appraisal staff: very special in his style, very fine, very slightly alcoholic, fresh and refreshing display a slim but steady corp.

Tall thin 33cl bottle, best before 31 Dec 2012, poured into a Westmalle chalice in Oct 2011.
Looked really great (like all beers in a Westmalle chalice): deep, deep depths of darkness a well formed and creamy looking tanned head sat proudly on top.
A French smoked beer of the finest order, the smell was peat bogs and smoked hams rolled in coal, the taste sharp, crisp and smoky, I’m impressed. Two days ago I had a rauchbier from Bamberg, this is different but equally as good if not better in my opinion. Obviously lager/pilsner based, but it hasn’t lost the firm, invigorating crispness those smoked brews from Bamberg seem too.
lager like in bodyfeel, but certainly not light or watery, just a little thin for the flavours it imparts.
Different and well made, a pleasant surprise.

(33 cl bottle from Brdr. D; Batch 211; BBD: December 31st 2013) Pours black with medium, creamy, toffee head. Good lace and retention. A pleasant aroma that is mostly roasted malt with perhaps some coffee notes. Creamy texture, medium carbonation, medium body with a roasted finish. Flavour is balanced and relatively dry. Neither bitter nor sweet. A pleasant and quite drinkable stout for the ABV.
