Bottle: Unfiltered.
Brewed at De Proefbrouwerij until 2005
A stout made with roasted barley, tonic and invigorating, with a well-conditioned, slight but distinctive bitterness. Noire de Stack is perfect for beer-tasting and goes very well with smoked fish, oysters and delicatessen meats.

Bottle from Beermerchants. Glossy, pitch black beer with a stable beige foam lacing with each sip. Odd aroma for a a black beer; perfumed citrus (Terry’s chocolate orange...coriander/and/or orange peel) sprinkled over the more expected drinking chocolate, Neopolitan ice cream, bacon, cooked veg nuttiness (olfactory senses readjusting after a Founders Porter). There isn’t much roast to the flavour, but what there is is good; chocolate, mellow tobacco tones, discreet spicing (?), again suggesting my favourite, foil-wrapped, spherical item of English confectionery. Maybe it’s just me. Pistachio/ vicarious cigar aftertaste, inhaled from the adjacent table. Very French. And strong evidence that good beer exists (and is even made) in France.

Leighton (11457) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 19, 2010
Bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge, off white and cloudy head. Dark malts, light chocolate and caramel in the nose. Fairly sweet with cocoa and candy, along with some chalky, tobacco bitterness. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Seriously dry to finish, with some burnt wood and charred malts, which are short-lived with touches of sugary sweetness. Decent beer overall.
