The Winter Frost pours a medium amber color with a large, frothy light-brown head. Fair lacing over a clear body. Light perfume hops, and only the faintest hint of malts. A light bitter taste from start to finish, with an alcohol tinge. Oily finish on the mouth.

This offering from Nutfield pours a delicious maroon that leaves a thin white lace that sticks to the glass, the body is clear and has small carbonated bubbles in the body. The aroma of this porter is tart, the smell is grassy and funky. The taste starts on the palate with a sharp unripened plum tartness that laces your throat. It then moves to a bitter hop feel, that has a small spice taste to the body. The finish is nice, although this is a bit rough for a porter not as smooth as I expect for the style but overall decent.

On draught @ Manchester Airport 2/11/05. Deep auburn/amber tinted body with ruby highlights when held to the light. Lightly transluscent with a smattering of light tan-beige head that sticks lightly to the sides. Aroma of fruity yeast esters, good solid English yeast apparency! Flavor, while the beer is served too cold, is still delightful. This is far and away the best beer I’ve had at an airport. This tastes nothing like a porter, perhaps it was changed this year? Toasted caramel malt, fruity English yeast, a bit of dustiness and a chewy, nutty finish make me classify this, loosely, as an English Strong Ale. Medium body, low bitterness, but good balance, low carbonation. Some spicy hops on the very end. Light cream and honey notes play with the hops as well.

Bottle. A see-through dark brown and amber color with a tan head. A roasted malt aroma with a touch of fruit. A nice malt tangy bite in the flavor with a lingering malt presence. Thanks to my friend Tim for bringing this back from NH for me.

Has a dark amber/ruby color with moderate carbonation and a roasted malt smell. Taste is also of roasted malts and finishes with a typical bitterness. Overall this is not a bad porter, but I was expecting it to be a more filling beer for a "winter" style.
