Note: Unaged, nameless version pre-released in september 2007. Officially released as Bötet Barley Wine in september 2008.

250 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget. 2009 vintage. Pours amber with a caramel coloured head that slowly dissipates. Smell is packed with sweet fruits like figs, dates and very ripe peaches, there’s also some caramel, resin and alcohol. Taste is very sweet with figs dominating the flavour. There’s also prunes, dates, fruit toffee and alcohol. Finish is bitter and rather dry.

2010 Vintage. 25 cl Bottle at Dahlbergs, Helsingborg. August 2011.
Deep red colour with a thick firm head. Fruity rich aromas of raspberries, candied sugar, butterscotch and caramel. There is a nice lingering sweetness in the nose. Unique and interesting aroma. Full bodied but quite flat due to the lack of carbonation, this also makes it a bit sticky but luckily it’s not a disaster. I have a feeling the carbonation might have transpired so it could be that it’s better drunken fresh. Other the that it’s all good. The balance and flavours are nice. It does have a nice fruity character with flavours of figs, grapes and berries - there is also some caramel and toffee action. Long and sweet aftertaste.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2015 Bottle, 2010. Surprisingly big off-white head that quickly dissipates. Dark amber, polished copper, color. Slightly hazy. Sweet caramel and a lot of malt in the nose with some hopes hiding in a corner. Sweet taste, well rounded, with no alcoholic tinge to talk about. Medium body with light carbonation. Light bitterness in the ending. When 2010 was released I was not very impressed, this one though, having had a year on my shelf, was another matter. Much better balance, and a complementary, well-rounded feel to it. Re-rate May 2015, bottle 2011. Small off-white head that dissipates, leaving some small residues. Dark amber, polished color. Nose is strong sweet malts with toffe, caramel, raisin and some vanilla. Taste is sweet and well rounded. A small alcohol edge, but it only makes the balance better. Medium-heavy body with light carbonation. Long bitter-sweet ending. This 4 year old bottle is easily the best Bötet I’ve had. Excellent!
