COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Note: Unaged, nameless version pre-released in september 2007. Officially released as Bötet Barley Wine in september 2008.

Cask at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007. hazy amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit - especially appricots, but also notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of alcohol, fruit, and caramel, leading to a very dry and grassy finish.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2009 Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival 2008. Reddish amber color. Sweet, perfumumed, fruity, berryish and candyish aroma with notes of apricot and watermelon. Sweet very fruity flavor with apricot, chewy toffee, and some balancing bitterness. Soft and warming palate. Clearly better than 2007. Old rating: Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007. Hazy amber color with no head. Sweet aroma with apple and wood. Malty, nutty, berryish and toffeish flavor with notes of apple, warming alcohols and some phenols. Tastes young.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2009 2009-11-09, draught at Mackinlay’s Inn, Stockholm, a keg from 2008, 7-5-9-4-17=42
Hazy dark amber color; big rocky head. The aroma starts getting a bit funky, but the additional aging has rounded out the already good malt flavor; there is the usual sugary stickyness; the bitterness is lower, the final is a bit nutty. Interesting and excellent.

2009-09-02, draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse N.68, Stockholm, 9.1% ABV, 8-5-8-4-16=41
Red mahogany color, creamy head. The caramel aroma shows some fruitness, mature apples. Strong body structure and strong caramel flavor, with just average quantity of residual sugars and good hopping, trying to add a fruity and resiny edge; alcohol perception. Bold and pleasant.

2009-02-20, bottle at Svea, Malmö, Böted, 9.1%, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Hazy dark amber to mahogany color. Pure malt aroma, with some fruity hops. It has a good body, not like American Barley Wines, strong caramel and malt flavor, with a good, overwhelming sweetness, and finally bitterness and hopping. 2/3rds English and 1/3rd American; it has very good sweet malts, bold hopping but limited fruits or resins. A crossover. Very good.

2007-09-20, cask at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007, 7-4-8-4-15=38
Cloudy orange-amber color. Appley malt aroma. Quite strong body, sweet but not too sticky, malty, a bit fruity, with a good bitterness too; very light fruity yeast traces, so maybe the decision of ageing it longer is correct. Warming. Quite long final, still some sugars as well.

Marsiblursi (2983) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - OCT 11, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 4, 2009 (Draught) Pours amber. Plum and raisin-like aroma with tones of flowers, fruit and alcohol. Quite yeasty and a bit too young. Some chlorine and salt are also notable. Yeasty and plum-like flavour with tones of spicy hops, fruits, flowers, caramel and alcohol. Warming, almost a bit burning mouthfeel. Some apples both in the aroma and in the flavour. Medium bodied. Too young, this will be so much better a year from now. Rerate July 2009: (Bottle) Pours light hazy reddish brown with a small off-white head. The aroma holds notes of dried fruits like apricots prunes and figs alongside a clear toffee-ish sweetness. The fruitiness also brings tones of candy, canned fruits and berries. Unfortunately, a wet cardboardy oxidation is also notable. Undertones of caramelized apples, walnuts oil, white sugar, lemon/tangerine soft drink, and earthy spices. The maltiness is almost wort-like with hints of almond past, grainy bread and glue. Only a slight touch of resiny/earthy hops. No typical Nynäs phenols = good. The flavour is medium sweet, light to medium bitter with notes of earthy caramel, marzipan, sticky dried fruits, ripe tangerines/apricots, glue, almonds, wort and bread. The massive maltiness is showing muscles but still lacking dignity. The mouthfeel is fat and sticky with a soft carbonation. Malty, alcohol warming finish. Near full bodied.

Hazy red color, small off-white head. Very oaky-like aroma. Fruity, sweetish, honeyish, alcoholic and oaky flavor. Still too young, needs maturing.

Cask at SBWF, unofficial realese. Hazy reddish amber with a low white foam. Sweet fruity aroma of flowers, raisins, candied nectarines and caramel with a serius amount of grapefruity hops on top of it. Full bittersweet flavour of flowers, caramel, cherries and grapefruit. Alcohol, flowers and caramel in the long aftertaste.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2008 Draught@SBWF2007. Murky amberish brown colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is malts, raisins, alcohol and really nice Barley Wineish. Flavour is malts, alcohol, caramel and fruity hops. Good already now, but really looking forward to try it again at some point when it’s been aged a bit. 8 4 8 4 16
