1/21/12. On tap. Red pour with a small khaki head. Sweet caramel aroma with brown sugar and maybe a touch of oxidation. Very nice flavor that shows sweet fruits, dark fruits, brown sugar, and more. Quite nice!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
20/11 0.5 l bottle courtesy of Marko, well, great thanks for sharing! It poured reddish body with small head. Oak and almond aroma, notes of caramel, chestnut, palm wood. Sweetish caramel flavor, dried figs, has some alcoholic bite, but not too harsh, surprisingly quite simple, but pleasant. Medium sticky body with lower carbonation and long sweetish finish. Warming of course. Really pleasant barley wine, aged just enough to eliminate usual rawness of the style. Thumb up.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 2009 edition. Pours a clear nougat brown body with a small off-white head. Nose is reminiscent of hard, cream-based caramel ("knekk" in Norwegian) with nougat, whale nuts and hints of molasses and vanilla. Taste is burnt caramel, "knekk" again, wood, vanilla, port wine, molasses and hints of alcohol and deep malts. Amazingly complex and nice. Smooth, creamy palate befitting the cream-caramel-wood-port profile that’s being dished out over my taste buds with each sip. Truly delicious and a fantastic surprise from Nynäshamn - I’m gonna get this again if I can!

UPDATED: FEB 29, 2012 Bottle at the traditional lake tour 22 des 2011. Deep amber colour with a beige head. Sweet nose, caramel, toffe. Not that heavy sweet as many barley wines, well blended at not a massive alcohol flavour either, fruity, caramel, toffe.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Det här är en bra barley wine med mycket och kraftig smak som präglas av humle, sötma och lite syra. Den höga alkoholhalten märks knappt och den är en ren fröjd att förtära.

Bottle, pours amber with small head. Aroma is bread, nuts, caramel. Taste is as aroma but some dark fruits also. Low carbon. Good and interesting, perfect on a gothemburg-shitweather day like this.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
2009 edition. Brown with some sediment. Dark, aged aromas, Port/sherry like oxidation. Ripe, dried fruit, plums, figs, sweet maltyness. Taste follows the nose. Fullish body, pretty long finish. More madeira-like than the barley wines I know. A strong figs presence. Nice acquaintance, well made, but one is plenty for me.

Another one of Per’s "mints on the pillow" :D. Shared with ogivlado and heavy... and it almost wasn’t... It was one of the beers I took to drink during the seminar (mostly to share with the infidels/newbies to draw them to our side), and it was in and out of the fridge, surviving a party only because we were thrown out of the room we were in and I figured that rating it outside in the dark would be heresy. So it went all the way back to Sweden, through Hungary to Croatia. Not a journey as epic as Bergenbier Nefiltrata’s, but still cool. And I’m damn glad I shared it with the Croatian crew! Anyway, poured a murky dark amber-brown body with a small off whtie head. Sweet malty nose, overwhelming? hm. Coffee, sticky caramel, some dust. Sweet, creamy honeyish taste, neither too aggressive nor cloying, only slightly sticky. The only trace of alcohol is the warmth in the end. Not terribly complex but a damn solid beer, and a Barleywine I actually like, which is always a thing of joy and wonder heh. Nynäshamns is more than capable of brewing very good even great beer, so no wonder! And yeah, another thanks to our own omhper :).
