Note: Unaged, nameless version pre-released in september 2007. Officially released as Bötet Barley Wine in september 2008.

Bottle. The golden foam is just lovely! And the aroma gives you everything you want of sweet dried fruits. The taste is not that special... yet... its a little too sharp just now, but I bet this well develope in the cellar.

Small cream head, gone in secs over foxy-red beer. Grapey hops, light caramel, cake, resin, bit soapy, with a hint at cinnamon. Sweet, syrupy, caramely with bitterish-resiny touch in the finish, like grapefruitjuice, reduced with brown sugar. Viscous, oily on the lips, and a hint at astringency. Flavours coming together, however. Decent, very USA hopped-like Barley Wine. It seems to miss some body, but nips away nicely.

Bottle, pours amber with small head. Aroma is bread, nuts, caramel. Taste is as aroma but some dark fruits also. Low carbon. Good and interesting, perfect on a gothemburg-shitweather day like this.

20/11 0.5 l bottle courtesy of Marko, well, great thanks for sharing! It poured reddish body with small head. Oak and almond aroma, notes of caramel, chestnut, palm wood. Sweetish caramel flavor, dried figs, has some alcoholic bite, but not too harsh, surprisingly quite simple, but pleasant. Medium sticky body with lower carbonation and long sweetish finish. Warming of course. Really pleasant barley wine, aged just enough to eliminate usual rawness of the style. Thumb up.

Clear deep amber beer. Light off white frothy head. Rich malt nose. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Rich toffee malt, slightly creamy. Just a little fruity hop peeping through at the end. Fairly simple but sumptuous and well joined up.

Bottle from SB, 2012 edition. Pours medium brown with a light reddish hue, clear, with a light tan medium head. Looks lovely. Aroma is quite fresh with grass and hay, then caramel malt, dough, nuts, banana, and just a hint of toffee. Taste is perfectly balanced between a nice bitter and a very pleasant sweet that last through the start and all the way to the - slightly too abrupt - finish. Body is medium to full, creamy AND slightly sticky, with low carbonation. As far as I can remember, the 2011 was better, but this is still a very nice barley wine.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2013 Rating #100! Bottle from Systembolaget, 2011 vintage. Pours a dark amber with a off white lacing. Pear, caramel malt, figs, sweet and floral hoppy notes to the nose. Taste is dominated by caramel malt but there’s apricot, figs and some raisin as well. A notable warming alcohol sensation at the end which is a bit dry as well as bitter. Medium body, low carbonation. A bit thinner than expected but still a good barley wine. 2010 vintage has caramel malt and bitter orange marmalade and sweetness all over the nose. Taste is sweet malty with raisins and plums and also has some dry chocolate and wood to it. Heating sensation at the end. Thicker feel than the 2011 vintage.
