3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at the Rover, Göteborg, Sweden. Deep reddish brown, medium creamy beige head. Typical spicy Nynäshamn hops dominate, some caramell and roasted malts also, but the hops are too dominant for a brown ale i.m.o. Medium bodied and smooth, with a long and sharp bitterness. Could have been a really good one with some more malt profile.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2007 (Bottle and draught) Pours reddish brown. The typical spicy, wood–ish, nutmeg like aroma is present in this Nynäs beer also. Softer tones of caramel, chocolate and honey. Also some light fruity notes of grapefruit, lemon and oranges. Light to medium roasted. Light roasted and hoppy flavour with only a touch of caramel and honey. Medium, grapefruity bitter and light dry. Rather smooth malty mouthfeel but maybe just a bit to sticky from the other sugar sources. Hop spicy palate. Hints of chocolate in the aftertaste. Typical Nynäs.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clearish nut brown coloured ale that wears a solid off-white head, 2 inches thick and slowly diminishing. Pretty hoppy and roasty nose manages to hide most of its assumed subtleties. Bitter orange and even green pine make an appearance in this otherwise very toasty nose, like slightly burnt bread. Those hops offer a firm contrast over the rather sweet toasted to burnt caramel notes that we find on the tongue, procuring a rather dry and salty impression of dead leaves and dried earth, peat moss maybe. I don’t know, it does not try to be balanced, but I don’t dig the way the malts feel diminished by the agressive bitterness and that saltiness bugs me a little. Still, it’s a well-brewed and tasty example of a style that tends to be boring, so I should not complain.

Clear red brown color, fluffy tan head. Rather hoppy scent, also sweet and some pine. Very bitter hoppy taste. Medium mouthfeel, high bitterness.
Draught at the brewery during a tasting and tour, on December 9, 2013.
Clear dark brown color, tan head. Sweet, phenolic, spicy, yeasty scent. Spicy, malty, grainy, phenolic taste. Dry, spicy aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
Fermentation/yeast character too evident, you loose some of the balance of the ingredients with all the phenoles.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse No 68, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy off-white head. Fruity nose with dark fruit, yeast, hints of smoke and lots of earthy hops. Fruity taste with dark fruit, caramel, yeast and lots of earthy hops in the finish. More tasty and bitter than any other brown ale I’ve tried. Probably not true to the style, but actually better. Rather magnificent, actually.
