ClubGonzo (4024) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUL 23, 2010
Pours a clear orange-brown body with a medium off-white head. Aroma is delicious and intense, with honey, vanilla, wild strawberries and hints of peach. A real fruity hop bath for my nose. The taste does not, unfortunately, follow up so much, with only three thirds or so of the initial promises fulfilled. Some more flavors do arise, however, such as hay, grass and hints of licorice, which manages to save it somehow. The palate is the real problem with this one; thin and slightly watery compared to the otherwise rich and flavorful brew. With a couple more ABV percentages and a bit longer storage to boot, this beer could’ve reached Olympian heights. Instead, Dragets Kanal remains on the "very good, but not great" level. Try one if you can, though.

Bottled:
Pours dark amber with a mid-sized head. Malty toffee aroma with notes of dark fruits and cherries. Flavour is malty toffee and loads of hops. Well balanced and really good.

Bottle. Clear copper colour. Low head. Tutti-frutti like ’2IPA’ nose. It’s nice but subtle or restrained. No phenols (tin, swimming pool, solvent, you name it) here like in many of Nynäs beers. Jellyish mouthfeel and really balanced flavourwise, meaning not too much of anything. Slight on the sweet side for a 2IPA, however I did not measure the FG - it feels slight sweet. Given the low ABV along with the somewhat sweet finish, the ’smack in the face’-Double-IPA is not just there. The hop flavour/bitterness does not kick in like it does in its American counterparts. Here we have a balanced Swedish variation of a 2IPA, some would say too balanced?

Bottle 25 cl. RBESG Rome 2010. Courtesy of rickgordon. Clear amber golden with a dense and lacing off-white head. Intense, fat and peachy hop aroma. Quite full-bodied, fruit and caramel with loads of peachy hops. Not overly bitter but very well balanced. 060610

hirigalzkar (2290) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUN 17, 2010
Bottle. Pours orange brown. White head. Deep hop character in aroma. Dried fruit sort of qualities. Taste is bitter but not in the typical american IPA way. This one has got a lot of burned, bitter, grape notes. Overall this is a a little thin and wuzzy. Like a boring mix of an american and a brittish IPA.

Bottle. It tastes like a cross over between a English and US IPA/Pale ale and not at all as an DIPA. Nothing wrong with the tast though.
