(Bottled, vintage 2005, at Haket, Gothenburg 6 July) Colour is opaque black, with a foamy brown head, disappearing rather quick. Nose is roasted, rather smokey and tarry, with notes of liquorice and chocolate. Huge and absolutely beautiful. Same aromas in the taste: roasted, smokey, tarry, a bit salty with notes of chocolate pudding, espresso and some vanilla. Full bodied, but with a smooth mouthfeel. Absolutely brilliant, has gained a lot from the wood ageing.

(Bottle at Haket, Göteborg) 2005. Pours black with red reflexes. Brown head. Aroma is burned and dry with chocolate. A bit sour and a bit vineous with rum/raisins and maybe some dark fruit. Hints of smoke, brown sugar and coffee. Flavour starts of with a buttery, dark chocolate. Continues burned, smokey and sour. Finishes dry and bitter. Some tar. A bit salty and hints of rum. Medium to full body.

2005 Near black; dark greige, small head. Stunning, never experienced nose of ink, naphta, and ripe pears or peardrops. Then an onslaught of both coffee and smoked notes. Initially sweetish, roasted and coffeeish, ending in near-bitter roasted barley and/or oats, carbonized even, cigarette ash, but unfortunately - Rather disappointing watery texture, really not going on a lot under that black surface. Warming up, licorice. The nose was (initially) a true discovery; the (absolutely) watery texture, alas, nearly ruins it all. Mouthfeel, brewers, mouthfeel. Such beer ought to quench both hunger and thirst. Big thanks to Björn, Anders and the rest of the Swedish babblers’ crew!!
