On the nose: Toasty aromas of very dark rye bread, underneath dried fruit and chocolate. I can just barely smell the oak, probably wouldn’t have if I didn’t know to look for it. In the mouth: Now the aromas open up. The rye bread draws back slightly, revealing sherry-like raisins dipped in rich chocolate and some caramelly notes. The taste is appropriately bitter for the style, also showing a fair amount of roasted malt acidity, both of these balanced by caramel sweetness. On the palate the beer is a little shy of creamy with just a slight fizziness. The result’s maybe just a bit thin but on the plus side the beer finishes pretty long.

330ml bottle. Batch 2010, BB201201, drunk 201312. Gift from SaintMatty - thanks!
Pours an almost black ruby red, but completely flat. Quite aromatic berry pour, quite blackcurranty. In the glass it’s more of an aged roasted malt, a little bit of sherry. Then again, it has probably 4 years on it. Anna thinks it’s our courtyard grapes, but for me it’s pure Pedro Ximinez sherry. Some carbonation in the mouth briefly. Toffee in the retronasals. Beautiful aged roasty malts. That ageing has worked really. Burntness nice and toasty, but not astringent or ashy thanks to the sweetness, hops pleasantly bitter and leafy with a nice little tingle even if there’s almost no flavour to them any more. Beautiful sipper. No gimmicks. Ages well.

Pours black with almost no head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, honey, muscovado sugar, vanilla. Taste is fairly complex, with bourbon notes upfront as well as vanilla, chocolate, coffee, honey, muscovado sugar and vanilla. Quite good and the best by far from Nynäshamn.

Kolsvart med litet skum som snabbt dör. Tät. Russin, plommon, kaffe, choklad i en riKtigt fyllig kropp. Något söt men bra balans med bitterheten. Ser framemot att testa denna när den legat till sig i några år!

Bottle (2013 edition, BB Aug 2018). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/burnt grain, bitter chocolate), with notes of sherry, bourbon, oak, tar, soy sauce. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/syrupy texture, soft/lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Ehhh, really not my thing...soy saucy and oxidized and whiskyish. Folks who like their stouts old and barrel aged will probably enjoy this, whereas those who like them fresh and vibrant will not. Not too bad for what it is, but not very enjoyable for me.
