3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 auerbrau (2952) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - AUG 24, 2007
12 oz Bottle. Particular smell of apple instant oatmeal. Curt and to the point. A hazed deep gold pours out, with a sparse bubble soap foam tinted banana. Flavor is a unique bready and peachy foam. The beer is expanding from its shake up, but still carries gentle wheats, light fusili pasta, and toothy apple pucker. Shy of any off flavors, however these flavors the beer has are a bit peculiar, however enjoyable. There’s some off hexane or Styrofoam on the back end, but it’s not too interrupting. Hops could play more. Pretty nice. Thanks Rudy!

Pours a nice clear golden-orangish color with a very light head that faded quickly. Has a light grainy, grassy aroma. Flavor leans toward the hoppy side with a touch of diacetyl. Leaves a slight bitter aftertaste. Light to medium body. An ok beer
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 eaglefan538 (2778) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JUN 6, 2006
Had this two times and it sure isn’t a Pilsner, despite their website description. The brewpub/grill listed it as a Munich style Helles lager. This one certainly doesn’t kill you with grassy hops! Standard golden color with a nice initial white head, that dissipated gradually, but provided solid lacing. The aroma was malty rich and the hops undetected. The flavor was sweet (maybe a bit too much) and malty grainy (some light honey flavors). Fairly heavy mouthfeel, sticky sweet. (Resampled on 5/2/06.)
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ober (2763) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - JUL 19, 2012
A clear yellow/golden colored beer, with a white head. The aroma of malts with fruit, some orange. The taste is fruity, malts and a little hop. The aftertaste is sweet with a small bitter.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 3, 2002
UPDATED: AUG 9, 2004 The beer after its release from the 12-ounce bottle sets quietly in the glass a clear gold color with a white head that is frothy in texture and the residual lace a decent sheet to cover the glass. Nose is malt, clean and fresh and the start malt sweet with the top light to middling in feel. Finish is lightly hopped and the acidity mild, dry aftertaste and once again a drinkable beer and one that goes down well with spicy food and is tolerable in the desert heat.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2005 Could smell the aroma hops when poured in the glass. Gold color and had a nice head to begin with then a thin layer head covered the top till the beer was gone. Commercial description is right on,was and enjoyable beer while I had an Outback steak.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 OhioDad (2493) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - JUN 9, 2006
12oz bottle pours golden with a short white head that stays pretty well and laces a little. Aromas of lemon, and light grains. This does seem more like a helles to me than a pale lager as it definitely had more sweet honey flavor blended with some lemon. Airy and somewhat light on the palate. Crisp and clean and pretty drinkable on a hot summer day. I don’t believe that this one should be listed as a pale lager.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Sparky (2130) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JAN 15, 2009
Bottle. Pours a medium gold with a one finger white head that fades into a persistent soap scum topper. Nose is sweet malt and lager hops. Taste is light corn syrup, honey and grassy hops. Medium mouth feel. Not too bad. Glad to see this brewery bottling more of their line-up.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 savnac (2056) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Draft @ Oak creek. Clear yellow with a pure white head. Aroma of bready malt, corn and some herbal/spicy hops. Flavor is very cleanly fermented with more bready malt and light hop bitterness. Light body with active carbonation. Great beer for what it is, very clean and refreshing.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ElGaucho (2033) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - AUG 25, 2002
"Forty Niner" Gold Lager is an excellent entrant in the Lager style. The folks at the NABA also thought so, giving the beer a Gold Medal in 2002. Forty Niner Gold has a very pleasant aroma, though I could not identify specific elements. The appearance is deep gold, with good lace and a fine bubble head. There is a good balance of hops and malt. Could be a bit hoppier, but that might mean deviating from the style. The brew was a little less full-bodied than I like, but once again, sometimes you are simply restricted by your category.
