22oz bottle-pours a tight foamy light tan head and dark amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-maple/toffee, nutty, slight earthy hops. Taste is sweet medium malt-maple/toffee/chocolate, nutty, secondary earthy hops, some slight sour fruit, somewhat syrupy mouth feel. Semi-dry finish. The total isn’t quite up to the parts.

A copper amber ale with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, nutty roasted malt with light fruity esters. In mouth, a nice roasted malt with light coffee, nutty herbal hops, not bad. On tap at BIA, July 30, 2012.

My Bottom Line:
Nutty caramel sweetness and roastiness seamlessly sift into finishing earthy hop bitterness. This is a balanced and highly drinkable Brown Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-Creamy foam tops the clear auburn brown.
-The overall result is quite clean.
-The hazelnut-like sweetness is straightforward, but quite pleasant.
-The mouthfeel is well rounded for this strength.

On tap at Bray’s Brewpub.

In short: A typical creamy and nutty brown ale. Good example of an unexciting style
How: Bottle 22oz, improvised HF 1rst anniversary camping tasting
The look: Clear bronze body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is mostly toasted and nutty like I would expect from a good brown ale. Taste is creamy, hazelnuts, a bit of peanut butter, chewy soft bread crust, caramel. Basically this is a standard archetypical brown ale. Not to say it is great (it is a basic brown ale after all, not an exiting style) but there is nothing wrong with this beer and deserves a bit better than its current lousy 3.2 average, and no one dares question my opinions, I said NO ONE, your hear me? NO ONE!!!

En fût. Pinte dégustée chez Bray’s (Naples, ME). (Rating #1706)
