jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jun 8, 2009 (bottle). Pours a cloudy, dark copper color. Medium size tan head. Average malt and hop aroma with wood. Slick texture. Avg duration. Moderate carbonation. Light astringent finish, with light bitterness. TampaBrew (749), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2009 Pours a deep red. Nose is wood, pine, citrus. Flavor is slight oak, bitter hops, sweet caramel malt. Finishes woody and dry. Excellent! ljay6880 (132), , Pennsylvania, USA Jun 6, 2009 Pours a very rusty brown with a thick tan head. Smell is hops and wood. Taste is very hoppy with a bitterness that was both hop and the oak chips used in this beer. I was not impressed much at all, and would probably not drink this beer again; I am not fond of hoppy beers though. dnlsartin (68), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 4, 2009 Dark, rusty brown pour. Light, creamy head. Soft, dark fruit. Hoppy with a rounded oak finish. Subtle, but tasty. Not sure it’s quite worth the money or the hype, but it’s good. beerandIT (177), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 3, 2009 Pours a nice solid ruby red with a decent amount of head. A medium to full bodied beer as far as I can tell. On the nose I get oak, malt, subtle hops, hidden fruit and a bit of a nut smell as well. On the palate I am getting oak and more oak, some malt sublties along with the wonderful hop flavor there as well. Excellent beer. thewolf (5662), Kolding, Denmark Jun 2, 2009 Bottle. [vintage 2006]
Pours clear, dark amber with a great, large, creamy, beige head. Impressive hoppy aroma for a vintage, pine, grapefruit, caramel, blackberries, some oak. Low carbonation, fine creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour is very sweet at first, some berries, nuts, orange and caramel. Very bitter with lots of hops before a very dry finish sets in with lots of oak and dryness. Extremely dry finish, but very nice and enjoyable. TheBeerBaron (218), Florida, USA May 31, 2009 Dark reddish brown color with a white head that dissapates but does leave lacing indicating good ingredients. No carbonation seen in the glass. It looks like a scottish heavy. A very sweet malty aroma thats prominately featuring a pineapple fruit smell. There is a slight hop aroma but it pales to the fruitlike sweetness. Its a great smelling ale. The taste is a curious contradiction. Initially sweet fruity orange malt but it goes bitter from a large hop amoutn. The oak nuttiness is there in the taste as well. Palate is a bit heavy or surupy but acceptable. It is a unique and special ale. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA May 29, 2009 Tap and Bottle. Very expensive six pack. I feel like the oak aging made a negative effect on the flavor, oak flavoring didn’t even show through. Tap offering was much better.
