fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 26, 2009 Bottle pours dark brown with light tan head. Aroma is pine hops, slight malt character, and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel. Taste follows the nose and I don’t detect the oak. Yep. I double checked. Its the oaked version. Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2009 Bottle Pours a murky brown with a light tan head. The head seems to last well and laces nicely. Has a good malty aroma with touches of vanilla, alcohol, and wood. Has a good carbonation. A nice mouthfeel. The flavor is decent. Good hearty and malty with a touch of oak. Has a full body. Nice burn. A good finish with a nice lingering aftertaste. The oaked does add something to it but I like the beer anyway. maeib (4677), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England May 24, 2009 Bottled Evening Star Brighton A hazy dark amber coloured beer which verges on ruby with an off white head. A big aroma of malts and hops with vanilla notes from the wood. The taste is very smooth yet big with lovely balanced hop and malt notes with nice alcohol and a perfumed almost floral woody note. Delicious, big, bold, smooth and inviting.
foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 23, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours very dark ruby red with a small off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Faint aroma of yeast and hops. Flavor of bitter hops with balancing malt and oak undertones. Moderate alcohol burn. Very drinkable and more delicate on the tongue than expected. Lovely. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA May 22, 2009 12 oz bottle. Citrus American hop aroma over caramelized sugars. Cloudy orange amber with a small off-white head. Robust hop flavor and toasty graininess up front then lots of hop bitterness with hints of wood and vanilla. Finish is dry and bitter with the oak notes coming out. GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA May 21, 2009 Dark amber pour with a light tan head. Aroma of oak covers most of the aroma you notice in Arrogant Bastard(ABA). You do get notes of sweetness and some hops in the background. Creamy mouthfeel, but the oak mellows out the beer. Some bitterness at the end, but less then ABA. ABA is a very tasty beer, but I prefer the oaked version. Nice lacing on the glass. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA May 21, 2009 Bomber, Magnum, and Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Chewy hoppiness with a nice pine and grass hop character. Moderate malt and fruity etoh warming with a subtle oak character. Some coffee roast as well. Dam good. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA May 18, 2009 Tap at Pap. Shocked at how much I liked this. Aroma is very standard - dry malts and very light roast. Color is a thick gray charcoal brown with a thick tan head. Flavor has barely the zing of regular AB, but the roasted oakiness make sthe whole thing taste like a lightly smoked porter: burn, coffee, toffee, caramel malt. Finish is kind of abrupt and hoppy. Really something.
