12oz in bordeaux glass. Deep copper with tall, diminishing yellow head. Vanilla, tangerine, jasmine, and mellow leather notes. Rich caramel malty flavor with hints of juniper. Finishes tart and coating, but less hot and harsh than standard AB. Full-bodied and rich, balanced with bold and punchy yet refined characters.

This is quite nice. Very smooth and rich. I recall some vanilla and bourbon, but also with all the good stuff I enjoy from the regular arrogant bastard. I’m glad they made this.

355ml bottle, dark copper color, with a fluffy beige head, light floral hop lavender nose with some leafy, minty notes, with a mild toasted, caramelized malt accent, and a light vanilla oakiness with some piney, coniferous aromas follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet toasty, fruity flowery hop character of peaches, tangerines, with some leafy, spearmint, kind of medicinal flower accent, with a hint of vanilla oakiness, leading towards a warming, malty, intense hop leafiness, minty bittering finish.

Nice fruity aroma with lots of subtlety - leather, sweetness and must. Good painted label, bottle-brown beer with a big head, almost clear (hard to tell in a foggy glass.) Piney, lemon/lime marmalade, chalky chocolate notes, vanilla. The oak really didn’t jump all over me. Long bitter aftertaste which turns nutty/grassy.

Very bitter, but rich and dark. Malty, hoppy, not a whole lot of oak though. Pretty drinkable. Pretty powerful taste. A mix of sweet sugar and bitter hops. Nice.

Bottle, 6.7%. Beautiful deep ruby pour capped with creamy beige. Nose immediately grapefruit citrus,Turkish Delight hopcone tackiness, jellied red fruits melding into creamy oak, vanilla ,fudgy malt sweetness, nutty hints. But it’s mostly about that sweaty, resiny alpha goodness. Any UK beer sniffing like this would be considered seriously hopped up. Oak building as it warms. Velvety caramel m/f, grapefruit and mandarin upfront receding as the oaky Bourbon tones creep in. Back come the hops for a bitter, bitter grapefruit linger with a crumb of nutty malt. The oak is really well integrated , cushioning the sledgehammer citrus attack beautifully. Delicious surprising beer unlike anything I’ve really tasted before, nearest parallel Shep Neame Winter Hop. But it’s different league to that. Bring on the pint bottle of Double Bastard.....

Draft @ Capone’s Nov ’08: Poured a dark amber color with a little bit of head. The aroma was strong hops. The flavor was sweet malts, oak, hops, and some fruit as well. Overall, this is a great beer.
