LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep somewhat murky brown with a ring of off white head. Aroma of raisins and sweet caramel malt. Flavor is very sweet and malty. No oak. No hops. Very underwhelming. It is a shame because regular AB is so good. Not a good beer to oak age apparently. fidel (887), Livermore, California, USA Dec 12, 2008 Dark redish amber, caramel, piney, vanilla, wood, spicey, little dark fruits, little alcohol. popery (133), San Francisco, California, USA Dec 11, 2008 12 oz bottle. Amber brown liquid with a dissipating head and plenty of lacing. As advertised it is an oaked version of AB. The oak comes through strong, dry and acridly woody. A more refined AB that is a bit harder to enjoy but ultimately more pleasing. Caramel and grapefruit hops still come out but are more muted than in the AB. Light vanilla note. dirt55 (150), Washington, USA Dec 8, 2008 bottled, mod dark brown pour with small brown head, aroma of spices mixed with light oak, sweet and spiced flavor with nice oak finish, mildly hoppy palate, good stuff. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Dec 5, 2008 Bottle. Dark ruby brown with a small head. Aromas are oak wood with earthy hops and spices. Alcohol is evident with some grapefruit. Flavours are toffee malts with lots of dry, woody notes. Bitter pine and grapefruit hops with some smooth caramel. Dry, bitter and warming on the finish. epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Dec 4, 2008 just a bit better than the original ABA. oaky flavor, mahogany in color, head did not last. pumpmaster (474), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA Nov 30, 2008 12 ounce bottle purchased at Big C Liquors Orlando, FL for approx. $2.50 Excellent. poolboy (66), Lafayette, Indiana, USA Nov 30, 2008 Usually I don’t find that oaking improves a beer. This one is not exception. Copper color with large head. Oak and some other flavor, perhaps vanilla, cool off the hops. Too smooth for this type of brew.
