3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2009 bottle poured into a few taster glasses.
A - Pours murky brown with a small half finger tall off-white head leaving very little lacing down the glass.
S - Smells of rich caramel malt, toffee, citric hops, and some earthy wood tannins from the wood chips. This has a lot going on but they all complement each other leaving a complex yet enjoyable nose.
T - Starts off with a big hit of sweet caramel and toffee from all that malt slowly giving way to a mix of dulled citric hops, vanilla, and pallet drying wood tannins. The dryness carries over to the finish, mixing with a bit of the sweetness from the malt, and lingers for some time. Overall I enjoyed this one, it was complex yet enjoyable. I am not sure I could have more than one at a time but once in a while is fine by me.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. It has an overall slick feel with a mix of malted sweetness and tannin dryness in the finish, lingering for some time.
O - I think I enjoy oaked bastard more than the regular version. This one is more complex and keeps you on your toes, while the regular version is a bit one dimensional. Pretty good stuff.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
35.5cl bottle. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, malts and pine. Lovely dark amber colour with a medium head which quickly dissipates. Sweet fruits on the palate, with citrus, aromatic hops. Sweetness transcends into a beautiful bitter finish. Great beer, and would order again but personally prefer the non oak-aged version.

Single bottle from W&M Mansfield. Poured into a tulip glass. Beautiful deep chestnut brown color with a frothy tan head that settles to a thick lace. Earthy vanilla malt aromas. Flavor is very earthy - almost herbal, with layers of complex bitterness and sweetness. Lingering spice dry finish. Begs for another sip! Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark red body with a small offwhite head. Piney aroma with wood, dark fruits, malt. Taste is rich sweet of caramel, some grapefruit, oak, pine, apples and chocolate. Strong hoppy bitterness behind the sweetness in finish, aftertaste is a little to woody for me, but it’s absolutely a nice beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the Bottle Shop in Lancaster. Pours chestnut with a good creamy beige head. A really fruity taste to begin with. Lots of tropical notes, mango especially. The initial sweetness gives way to a nice long bitter finish with plenty of pine. A damn tasty ale, although I prefer the unoaked version.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Super dark amber. Aroma is heavy rich malts, oak wood, and pine. The taste adds caramel, a lot of oak, and a citrus hop bitter note on the finish. Low carb, rich coating in the palate. Excellent.
