Hazy deep amber color with a nice tan head with lacing. Aroma is oak, vanilla, fruit (cherries?) and roasted malt and this part is more enjoyable than the original. I get the wood chips right away in the flavor with some smoky maltiness, a little sweet and tart with a dry hop finish. Seems perhaps a bit more mellow than the original AB which is probably the aging. I may prefer the standard AB, which is a little more in your face but they are both excellent and very well done. allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Nose was citrusy, floral, caramel, smoke. Flavor was malt, oak, citrus, hop resin. Finish was bitter hops, light alcohol note. Mouthfeel slightly oily. Not really worh the upcharge for the oak chips. esjaygee (1519), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 25, 2008 Hazy copper with a tan slowly dissipating head. Aroma of mild oak, yeast, citrus and caramel. Taste of alcohol off the top with sweet malts, caramel and some light citrus mixed in. Finishes mildly bitter with alcohol and the oaken properties mixed in. I don’t want to say my first Stone was disappointing but it wasn’t knock my socks off either. thehurt01 (202), Denver, Colorado, USA

The oak chips blend the bitterness and the malts into a palatable American Strong Ale. As many other raters stated here, Oaked Arrogant Bastard is a smooth Ale. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

first impression: Sweet, candy aroma. deep, menacing rich red glow. deep, mesmerizing. Nice head. Enchanting flavor and general experience. Overwhelmingly hoppy and rich with bitterness. Lacing is intricate and wispy. Head fades quickly.

Color: Like a deep brewed tea. Very dark, and quite reddish brown. Like a sunset shot from Apocalypse Now.
Belgian Lace: fleeting, but there.
Aroma: I can smell a comfortable, favorite couch. It’s a good smell.
Hoppiness: Biting and complex hoppy flavor. Bite: Wow. Packs a wallop.
Flavor: The oak is very much the source of flavor here - it adds a bit of depth to the brew.
Weight: This is quite heavy and feels like something of importance when you hold it.
Mouthfeel: exciting, tingling, and enticing all at once.
second impression: Lace does more interesting things towards middle and end. A satisfying and rich beer. Carbonation is light and uninterrupting.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 19, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a beautiful deep red colour with an off-white head. The aroma is a nice blend of oak, hops and some malt with tones of vanilla, some coconut, citric hops and caramel. The flavour is of piney and citric hops, vanilla-ish oak and toasty/caramelly malt. Some cherries in both the aroma and flavour. Medium, lingering bitterness with a nice dryness. Medium to full bodied.
