dchmela (1411), Orlando, Florida, USA May 2, 2008 Thanks to Buckeyeboy for this. Dark brown pour with a thick tan head. Big malty, vanilla, slightly bitter aroma. Bitter hop taste with some of the oakiness coming through in the malt. I really wasn’t knocked out by the balance, I found too much bitterness and not really enough malt. Solid brew, otherwise. brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA May 1, 2008 super fine beer, another winner from stone. there is a distinct difference in this an normal arrogant, definitely worth trying them both. BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Apr 29, 2008 Dark brown, thin head, lacing not present. Nose is piney hops, brown sugar, oak. Very complex palate. A little bitter on the back end. Flavor is apricot, prune, oak, piney hops, wood. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Apr 29, 2008 Murky amber color with a thin head. Nose of caramel, oak and piney hops. Taste is the same, with good oak flavors. The citrus, pine and oak work well with the malts. wavelength (6), USA does not count Apr 27, 2008 Pours a cherry wood color with a thin tan head. The nose yields a perfume of pear nectar, jasmine vine and Honey Nut Cherrios. The layered taste
taste packs kaffir lime leaf, grapefruit pith, dried apricots and pine cones.
Punctuated with an appropriately cocky, bitter finish.
Audio Pairing: "White, Discussion" - Live Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a deep, murky, blackish red. Has a modest 2 finger head that sticks around for a long time and leaves some nice lacing.
S- Smell is hoppy and woody at the same time. When I close my eyes I feel like I am up in the mountains walking through a forest of pine. Has a subtle sweetness that really makes it appetizing.
T- Tastes a bit dark, muted coffee tones, oak, hop biterness almost all the way through and a small amount of floral sweetness at the end with an alcohol kick.
M- Semi thick and carbonated up a notch. Sort of stings the mouth, which I think totally fits with the arrogant bastard theme.
D- This is definitely a sipper and I would only have 1 glass in a night but certainly delicious and worth trying.
AMN (127), Dublin, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2008 Not too different from the original (not that that’s a bad thing). I can’t say I tasted the wood, which may be a result of all the other flavors mixed in. Though it didn’t blow me away, it is a great choice and is more economically packaged than the original. This will require more research! WesKBob (320), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Apr 26, 2008 Updated: Jun 18, 2009Pours a deep amber with a moderate beige head. Nice oaky aroma with lots of hops. Taste is similar with lots of complexity as the oak and hops compete. Outstandingly smooth palate for a beer of this type. Excellent.
Re-rate 06/18/09: Definitely drink this one fresh. I tried a bottle that had been sitting for a year, and it wasn’t nearly as good. The smooth oakiness had given way to a harsh bitterness. Still a nice beer, but nowhere near as good as fresh.
