Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA Apr 14, 2008 From a growler filled at the Stone brewery. This beer is all the wonderfulness of Arrogant Bastard, all dressed up. Deep red, hoppy, bitter, malty but smoothed out and with a slight vanilla character from the oak. An awesome beer. slimweebs (139), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 13, 2008 This just does not have the pop of the original Arrogant Bastard. I was disappointed, as I thought that the idea of oaking this brew might give it a little extra flavor. I was wrong. It seems to me that all they did by oaking it was mellow out what is supposed to be a punch-you-in-the-face american strong ale. It’s still good, but if I see oaked, and original sitting on the shelf next to each other, I would pick the original AB 10 out of 10 times. Enjoyit (1697), Vadum, Denmark Apr 13, 2008 Reddish amber of color with a nice off-white head. An aroma of malt, liqurice, grapefruit and fruity notes. A flavor of fruits, hops, grapefruit, malt and dried fruit. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Apr 13, 2008 Bottle from Alaskanwarren, shared with Fin, Loz and Traci at our American beer tasting night. Walnut brown, fine tan head with some good lace. Raw grain aroma, sun warmed grass clippings--an interesting sileage effect as noted by Loz, vanilla. An overall animal quality. Tanic, fine textured bitterness, soft caramel sweetness, resin, but without the sharpness. I think the oak rounds off some of the more interesting edges on this, but still a very pretty beer. Thanks Brian for this and all the other great beers! Fin (3385), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Apr 13, 2008 Bottle shared with Casey, Tracey and Loz at a great American beer tasting evening 11-04-08 hosted by Casey and Tracey, cheers mate! Unusual farmy slightly sileage aroma to this (noticed very accurately by Loz) there is a wet sweet grass slightly decompsing aweay type quality to this aroma but then I suppose like Loz said its sileage! (not unpleasant though) Pours deep amber with a white creamy actually it might be a tan head. Soft and mellow tasting around the edges with the oak really taking away any bitterness. This beer is arrogant ok and it almost challenges you not to like it fortunately I did like it, I loved the vanilla, the hops and all, lovely beer and a great finish to a wonderful evening of top class beers, many thanks once again to Casey and Traci, by the way the food was lovely as well! ksurkin (356), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Apr 12, 2008 love SAB, had to try this one. bottle from g&g. pours a dark amber/red almost apple cider color with a 1/2 inch pearl white head. aroma is huge, very sweet and dominated by apricot, pink grapefruit, pineapple, and of course, huge hops. one of the most unique aromas out there, honestly. flavor is one of a kind, just like SAB but a touch smoother. intensely bitter with hops dominating the flavor but with a great balance of caramel malt, sweet fruit, and a touch of smoke that adds a great touch to this beer. definitel a big beer that is not for amateurs or the faint of heart. africachile (6), Occidental, California, USA does not count Apr 12, 2008 Nice brownish amber color, very sour ina slightly citrus way, but it kinda reminded me of pine nuts or something as well. Hops are definately present. Bitterness bites the back of your throat in the most wonderful way. Took me some time to muscle it down, but i loved every second. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Apr 12, 2008 Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale is a great looking deep red beer with an appropriate head. The flavor is very nice with lots of hopps, grass and notes of berries. The aroma is very hoppy with tons of citrus.
